This is an hourly/wage position and is not entitled to the Commonwealth of Virginia’s state benefits package. This position is limited to no more than 1500 hours in a 12-month period and averages no more than 29 hours a week.
The Division of Benefit Programs at the Virginia Department of Social Services is currently seeking a Part-Time Program Consultant, Sr. This position is responsible for assisting in administering the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in accordance with federal and state laws, policy, and regulations. This includes the review, regulatory, and technical support to state and local department of social services in providing oversight of the outreach components of SNAP in the areas of policy, training, technology, outreach, compliance, and operations. Ensures that the program components are compliant by providing clear, concise communicationto colleagues, stakeholders, local agencies, and the public.
The primary responsibility of this position is to support SNAP Outreach objectives by administering the various programs and projects that align with that line of business. This includes, but is not limited to training development, project planning, and execution. Responsibility for providing input to the development of outreach plans, presenting programmatic content internally and externally. This position will also provide direct support to stakeholders and other members of the SNAP Unit to ensure the best outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in working in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and/or other means tested program operated by a social services agency.
- Experience with public speaking, interpretation and implementation of policy and procedures, and technical writing.
- Experience providing assistance with policy and monitoring performance in accuracy and participation measures.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and skilled in the use of personal computers.
- Considerable demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; effectively plan, organize, and manage time.
- Ability to analyze information, draw conclusions, and develop and implement solutions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing (training materials, memos and letters) with diverse groups.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and through ancillary groups to assist with reaching programmatic goals and objectives.
- Ability to collaborate, cooperate, and lead in a team structure to identify solutions.

- Working knowledge of SNAP rules and regulations.
