KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of free, public charter schools that prepares students for success in college and life. In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in The Bronx. Our goal was to graduate students with the strength of character and academic abilities needed to succeed in high school, college and beyond – and in so doing, to prove what is possible for all students. Today, our New York City network is comprised of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive support program for our alumni. KIPP NYC Public Schools currently serves more than 9,350 students and alumni and has a staff of more than 850. Job Description
Position Overview
The KIPP NYC Senior Manager, Employee Experience & Business Partner is an integral member of the Employee Experience Team and KIPP NYC People Team. The Senior Manager will manage employee relations and employee experience in the KIPP NYC region. ThisSenior Manager reports directly to the Managing Director of Employee Experience on the People Team.
This position is based in New York City and requires regular travel to the KIPP NYC schools, which are concentrated in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan.
General Duties & Responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Conducts interviews regarding an employee’s experience and investigates when a staff member does not adhere to the law or our organization’s policies.
- Provides employee education on employment policies, KIPP NYC protocols, and best practices.
- Represents KIPP NYC in contract negotiations, meetings, and negotiations with employee and labor organizations as needed.
- Analyzes information and data necessary to define and discern cost and policy implications of negotiations and disputes. This may include management and union proposals, pay scales and wages, benefits, working conditions, and other mitigating circumstances as it relates to employee experiences.
- Uses surveys, interviews, and other studies to conduct research regarding human resource policies, compensation, and other employment issues. After analyzing the information, make recommendations on changes, adjustments or enhancements.
- Advises and trains leaders on best employee relations practices and strategies for managing concerns and employee grievances, including training on employment laws and legal affairs
- Collaborates with leadership on matters of policy and terms of memoranda of understanding before and throughout the employee relations process.
- Collaborates with legal counsel and departments in the preparation for and participation in negotiation with employee and labor groups.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Employee Relations, Human Resources or related field preferred. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP a plus.
- Minimum four years of professional human resource administration experience, including two years in employee relations preferred OR its equivalent through training, education, and other experience,
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable federal and state laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively advise, coach, interact and navigate through crucial conversations, including a demonstrated understanding of negotiation techniques.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with stakeholders across functional and organizational lines

Compensation and Benefits:
KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $85,000 to $100,000 per year. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience relevant to the role and scope of responsibilities, and are benchmarked against others within the same salary band. Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range, however they are ultimately determined by scope of the position, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity.
