Position Description
The Community Safety & Communications department is home to Seattle’s 911 Center, which handles approximately 900,000 calls per year and is staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. It also houses the Seattle Community Crisis Responder team, which enhances public safety through provision of mental health professions available to respond to people experiencing non-violent mental health crises or quality of life concerns.

We are seeking an innovative Dual Dispatch Program Manager to support the development of staffing design, operational protocols, quality assurance and improvement, and management strategies for the new dual dispatch program.

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct the operational strategy, planning, and field execution of the dual dispatch team.
  • Establish effective partnerships across all City and County service providers.
  • Lead the development of Department policy related to communications and external affairs.
  • Create a quality assurance and quality improvement process for the initial 12 months of the dual dispatch program.
  • Actively support goals in promoting diversity and social justice, in service to the City’s Race and Social Justice Initiative.
  • Support and manage critical stakeholder awareness and ensure an effective feedback loop to inform continuous improvement.
  • Host and manage dual dispatch team meetings and interdepartmental co-response meetings,
  • Provide ongoing project updates for the CSCC leadership and other city stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain good working relations with department personnel, staff, vendors, peers, and management.
  • Design a wellness strategy for community crisis responders to mitigate the effects of compassion fatigue and potential secondary trauma.

Qualifications
A successful applicant will have a professional career that reflects a commitment to public service and excellence in crisis care. This experience should be complemented by demonstrated ability in most of the following areas:

  • A master’s degree in social work and at least 5 years of professional social work or mental health provision
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including the ability to tailor content for different audiences with different priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and tasks and to effectively organize projects and people.
  • Experience in co-response and/or alternative response

Additional Information
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:

  • Working experience with DSHS workers, chemical dependency treatment providers, mental health providers, healthcare providers, shelter providers, landlords, detox centers, medical clinics and other community programs which may support vulnerable participants.
  • Effective communication skills including written, active listening, and non-verbal communication.
  • Effective skills in case investigation and management, evaluation of facts/circumstances and clients and crisis management.
  • High cultural and emotional intelligence. Strong commitment to dignity and respect for all persons.
  • Strong leadership and program/project management skills.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.
  • Required to work nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

  • Required to operate automotive vehicles.
  • Required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work involves sensitive contact with people who are in crisis and / or maybe utilizing substances.

Compensation and Benefits: This position is classified as a manager 2, CLPS and is FLSA exempt. The full salary range for this position is $47.85 – $71.80 per hour.
