Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Dietetic Technician, Registered or Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered.

Duties Description DUTIES (will include but not be limited to):

Under the supervision of a Dietitian, assists in providing dietetic and nutrition services to individuals, which may include any of the tasks and activities described below for Dietitian 1 and 2.
• Maintains individuals’ records in accordance with program standards and requirements; and documents and updates individuals’ information, such as diet histories and plans, and modifications prescribed by physicians.
• Performs standardized dietetic care tasks, such as nutrition screenings and assessments on low-risk individuals.
• Observes individuals at mealtimes; records and reports observations, including eating habits and reactions to food and special diets; and consults with supervisor and treatment staff regarding changes in individuals’ diet and nutrition goals.
• Provides standard nutrition information and instruction on diets and food preparation activities to individuals, families, and healthcare staff.
• Inspects or supervises food preparation, handling, service areas, and meals; and assists in identifying deficiencies and implementing corrective action plans to ensure compliance with prescribed diets, menus, standards, and requirements.
• Monitors and maintains food service and supply inventories.

Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.

• Ability to comprehend, interpret and apply proper standards of cleanliness, sanitation and safety in relation to the storage, preparation and serving of food.
• Ability to communicate advice and instructions concerning proper diets and general nutrition to food service staff and to patients and their families.
• Ability to prepare and maintain accurate, standard dietary records and reports.

This position is eligible for the Downstate Adjustment of $3,087.
