Sr. Systems Developer, Infra Networking

We are looking for seasoned DevOps leaders; you’re perfect if you possess a rare mix of depth in functions which involve Dev, Ops, Systems Engineering and Customer Obsession. It’s difficult to find all these characteristics simultaneously but if you have them all, you’re highly valued and a rare breed! We need these skills because you will be working with an agile team developing an ecosystem of tools that support the Global Connectivity and Infrastructure team.

As a System Development Engineer you will not only be working to deliver great solutions, but will be a leader in the team and across the organization. This requires big picture thinking to build the teams capabilities and help influence other teams across our organization.

You will work with the team that is building mission-critical tools, and processes that enable our customers to better manage infrastructure assets and processes. You’ll investigate and create new systems for scaling development and production. You will need to be sharp and impressive with your DevOps magic.

Ideal candidates should be obsessed with Linux/Windows and demonstrate expertise utilizing system level tools. You should also be a competent coder with a track record of implementing solutions using software that you have written in a maintainable and best practices manner. A wide range of understanding cloud architectures as associated principles will help candidates be successful in this role. If you’re interested in the position, you should have a strong customer obsession that drives you to learn about your customers and innovate. And, you should be dedicated in the techniques and research that provide a holistic view of our customers.

The position requires strong CS fundamentals, as well as enthusiasm understanding low-level operations of large-scale cloud environment.

• Develop tools and systems to deploy operating systems and AWS services to customers.

A day in the life

This Systems Developer role is within a small, but critical team within the Global Connectivity Infrastructure Development organization. The team has a wide range of responsibilities: we develop tooling roadmaps, implement process solutions, collaborate with peers and stakeholders across organizations to ensure our employees have the efficient tools and processes to execute on their goals. Our infrastructure moves terabits of traffic across the globe to and from the Internet at any given moment, and represents one of the largest networks in the world, requiring complex solutions to ensure that our employees can provide network capacity and always stay ahead of demand.

About the team

Within AWS Networking, the Global Capacity Infrastructure Development organization is responsible for connecting Amazon locations to one another, and then to the global Internet. With connections to thousands in hundreds of locations across the world, our mission is to deliver connectivity experience that sets the global standard for performance, availability, security, and cost, making Amazon the clear choice for our customers’ needs. Our team provides high-performing Internet connectivity for a wide range of use cases, such as retail, video streaming (Prime Video), content delivery (CloudFront), DNS (Route53), AWS services (such as EC2/S3), consumer devices (such as FireTV/Kindle/Echo), and more.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

– 3+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby experience

– 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

– 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

– 4+ years of systems development in an IT or data center environment experience

– 4+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment experience

– 2+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience

– Knowledge of at least one modern programming language such as C, C++, Java, or Perl

– Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

– 1+ years of development/programming/scripting language (Python/Java/Bash/Perl) experience

– Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

– Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
