Assistant Athletic Director, Broadcast Operations

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Director, Broadcast Operations. This is a career, full-time position with a targeted salary range of $100,000.00 – $125,000.00 per year with full health benefits and membership in the UC Retirement Plan. UCLA Athletics is seeking an Assistant Athletic Director of Broadcast Operations that will lead the efforts in delivering a first-class television broadcast experience. Successful individual will be a self-motivated, team-oriented, organized, problem solver that can orchestrate live event production. The Assistant Athletic Director of Broadcast Operations will coordinate and lead all live event video broadcasts of UCLA Athletics home events and assist with in-game production elements. Position will collaborate with an extensive group of internal and external stakeholders including facility and operations, marketing, athletic communications, the Big Ten Network, the department’s multimedia rights holder, campus organizations, conference, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure the best event viewing experience possible. The position will be responsible for the design, development, execution and implementation of events as well as the staffing and training of the broadcast production room and in venue videoboards. Staffing will include a mix of full-time, part-time, and student staff that will work directly with the Big Ten Network Student U program, the conference office and UCLA. A successful candidate will have experience working in a fast-paced, multi-purpose space within a large organization that supports an intercollegiate athletics program with 25 teams and 700 student-athletes. The individual will be expected to develop a thorough understanding of the UCLA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics mission and goals, and comply with all NCAA and BIG Ten expectations. Over time, the position is expected to oversee at least 2 FTE and numerous, rotating student workers.

All applicants should demonstrate the following abilities and requirements: 5-7 years of experience in video industry including experience in television broadcast, live streaming and videoboard production; Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience; Prior experience integrating, implementing or refreshing an arena/venue broadcast control room a plus; Expert understanding of broadcast control rooms and staffing needs to execute a live event production as well as equipment maintenance and purchasing; Familiarity with modern broadcast cabling infrastructure used in broadcast environments; Managerial experience in broadcast control room setting including fiscal and staffing matters; Skill set to allow for conversations with network staff and department leaders about the vision of the product as well as what is possible to execute given existing resources; Experience leading a group of production and freelance staff as well as gameday personnel; Knowledge of videoboard production in a sports and entertainment facility; Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of stakeholders including external vendors in creating a live event production; Knowledge and previous experience working with sports leagues or conferences a plus; Strong understanding the linear and digital streaming marketplace; Ability to forecast and work within budgets to achieve common goals; Personality that attracts others and encourages collaboration and innovation; Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to achieve a common goal; Self-starter with the ability to work independently; Organized individual with executive still set and demonstrated leadership skills; Posses a strategic thinking mindset with the ability to adjust as needed, at times quickly and under time duress; Ability to manage internal and external stakeholders and have strong relationships with vendors; Prior and specific knowledge of AV production systems, cameras, systems, non-linear editing, audio, video, and lighting control systems; Excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, and time management skills; In addition, comprehensive knowledge of video software recognized as industry standards; Excellent organizational skills to handle the volume and variety of projects for which they must be accomplished; Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and at times long work shifts; Ability to meet deadlines, follow priorities and to schedule work on several projects at once; Ability to work in extreme weather conditions; Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and handling objects with hands; Job occasionally requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting to 25 pounds; Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically; Knowledge in analog, digital video, fiber, and audio systems; Experience in supporting game presentation elements and fan experience staff; Demonstrated ability to work on deadlines and handle several responsibilities simultaneously.; Strong knowledge of current and emergent audio/video technologies and video production.
