About Us:

NBCUniversal Global Distribution is responsible for the sales and distribution of NBC Universal products to all forms of television and new media platforms in over 200 territories across the globe, its revenue portfolio exceeding $7Bn per year. This includes a rich library of more than 4,200 feature films and 110,000 television episodes, including current and classic titles, non-scripted programming, sports, news, long-form and short-form programming, and locally produced content from around the world.

OVERVIEW

The Analyst, Legal Clearances provides support to the Vice President, Rights & Clearances – Global Distribution and International (“Department”) and is responsible for handling a variety of rights clearance issues and other administration tasks as set out below.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Various legal clearance and other services related to the production, manufacture, marketing, promotion, and distribution of NBCUniversal’s content in all media
  • Ensure new documents are properly scanned into Electronic Legal Files (ELF)
  • Handle purchase orders/invoices, including sending accounting forms to vendors for new vendor setup
  • Work with Accounts Payable to ensure vendors are paid promptly according to invoice terms
  • Maintain an efficient triage system to determine the best way to manage internal submission requests
  • Conduct distribution and music rights research as needed, and interface with commercial and sales teams to ensure proper clearance for all deals
  • Research and analysis of distribution rights, paid ad summaries, credit documents, and music license agreements, including music cue sheets
  • Gather and upload clearance information and documentation in a cloud-based clearance database system
  • Home Entertainment and TV Distribution Rights research for titles, as needed
  • Provide support on special projects and perform other related duties as assigned
  • Assist with distribution rights research relating to the sale and/or licensing of film and television content for television and “digital”/”new media” customers worldwide in various media (including free, basic, and pay television, SVOD, PPV/VOD, EST, and other media) using in-house contract assembly system (SAFE)
  • Assist with preparing Rights Memos which include distribution rights, copyright, holdbacks, product placement, and music
  • Identify, research, and resolve business and legal issues (including issues relating to contract interpretation) and provide ongoing advice and legal support to sales executives, marketing, technology experts, and administrative personnel
  • Act as primary contact for day-to-day inquiries for assigned licensee territories and act as a filter to facilitate answers to queries across all internal departments as needed
  • Provide support on wider Home Entertainment business affairs matters as requested

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of contract analysis, legal or paralegal experience, preferably with experience in Business Affairs or Legal Affairs in a movie studio, production company, record label, or music publishing company.

  • Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.

  • Strong Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills.

  • Team player; able to work in groups; willing to assist others as needed.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented team player, able to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
  • Related legal clearance experience with a studio, including papering and negotiating guild production contracts.
  • Previous working experience in an international office environment preferably secretarial/ administration duty.
  • Ample experience with drafting and reviewing legal documents; experience in a legal field or high-volume environment preferred.
  • Past experience in working with multiple clients (internal/external) and departments, etc.
  • Able to work independently; effective time management skills; able to perform multiple tasks concurrently (flexibility); prioritize effectively.
  • Have experience in providing clear and concise communications to a variety of diverse business units.

This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
