SPECIAL NOTES:

Associate degree in fire science, emergency management, communications, or related field from an accredited college is required or two (2) year of experience in fire science, emergency management, communications, or related field can substitute for the degree.

Additional requirements:

  • One (1) or more years’ experience in marketing or communications or public relations.
  • One (1) or more years’ experience in training the public.

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the nationally accepted community risk reduction processes and related procedures.
  • Knowledge of fire prevention practices.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Serves as the Division of State Fire Marshal Community Risk Reduction Specialist (CRRS). Assists the Community Risk Reduction position in the development and implementation of a state-wide community risk reduction training program. Assists the Community Risk Reduction position in the Development and implementation of marketing and communications strategies to promote emergency preparedness, risk reduction, fire and life safety training/education including social media and email campaigns and public relations. Supports the Community Risk Reduction position in the delivery of fire and life safety training/education and awareness programs, coordinates the schedule for the Community Risk Reduction position for all public speaking engagements. Assists with the State outreach efforts for statewide risk reduction training plans and strategies, in collaboration with local organizations and agencies.
  • Assists in the development of training material and the development of training schedules for local organizations, including fire departments, universities, and emergency management agencies, to promote emergency preparedness training. Assists the Community Risk Reduction position by helping identify the needs of local and state agencies to secure funding and grants for risk reduction initiatives and emergency management activities. Provides information to help support community stakeholders in the development of risk reduction plans and programs education and training. Communicates training opportunities with the Bureau of Fire Prevention Chief and assists in the scheduling of risk reduction training statewide.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports on program activities, budgets, and outcomes. Assists with the Florida Fire Incident Reporting System and completion of the Florida Fires Annual Report. Compiles, stores, and analyzes fire department response information, monitors trends and develops reports and presentation to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
