Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for routine work distributing mail, materials, and equipment throughout the County; maintains a pickup and delivery schedule throughout the County in keeping with established procedures; performs light to medium physical labor lifting and carrying items associated with mail, supplies, and other items; performs clerical-related functions when not engaged in courier activities.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Sorts mail, parcels, and other materials according to delivery routes and schedules and breaks down and repackages bulk quantities of mail for appropriate distribution.
  • Makes pickups and deliveries at pre-determined locations throughout the County in accordance with department policy either on foot or utilizing a Clerk vehicle.
  • Operates office equipment such as adding machines, copiers, telephones, shredders, and postage meters and mail folders, sorters, and inserters.
  • Performs basic operations on data processing equipment and other clerical duties such as photocopying and ordering and issuing supplies.
  • Performs simple computations and verifies figures.
  • Provides assistance to staff and public as required.
  • Updates system for tracking of utility mail and undeliverable and/or returned mail.
  • Maintains logs and records of equipment, inventory, costs, services performed, documents received, and charges to be assessed.
  • Reviews forms, documents and other materials for accuracy and completeness.
  • Types forms, vouchers, requisitions, invoices, notices, schedules, legal documents, and other materials; types from rough drafts or combines data from multiple sources.
  • Trains, provides guidance, and reviews work of others for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintains postage tracking expenditures for multiple Clerk departments and County agencies.
  • Determines priorities, schedules and assigns work as required.
  • Solves problems within the team related to work assignments.
  • Provides hands-on advice and assistance on work processes, best practices and subject matter expertise to subordinates.
  • Supervises and trains assigned staff.

Performs other duties as needed, including those performed by subordinate fiscal, financial, and/or clerical staff.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate, three (3) years of clerical experience, and possession of a valid driver’s license.

STARTING SALARY: $17.04 hourly/ $35,435 annually

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work requires light to medium physical labor including walking, climbing steps, lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods of time, kneeling, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, stretching, and operating a motor vehicle.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

Work is performed in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to coworkers and others.
