Job Responsibilities
25% 1. Under general direction, serves as an EUC Technician for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) supporting the Illinois State Police (ISP) and other client agencies:
- Performs difficult and specialized system services functions to support assigned agencies in the End User Computing (EUC) Section.
- Provides technical support for microcomputer-based hardware, software, and applications.
- Configures, implements, and tests PC based hardware and software for personal computers and equipment in Local Area Networks using automated software deployment tools such as System Center Configurations Manager (SCCM) or Microsoft Windows/Microsoft installer scripts (MSI), Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT).
- Schedules, coordinates, configures, installs, and supports end user hardware (personal computers, monitors, printers, etc.), Microsoft or Mac iOS operating systems, Microsoft Office client software products, and various software and supported applications on personal computers.
- Reviews and evaluates customer requests and develops solutions to satisfy customer needs.
- Reviews requests to ensure each meets standards and procedures
- Recommends hardware and software products for applications.
- Installs computers, monitors, printers, etc.
- Performs duties and assignments that cross into other functional areas including but not limited to network and server hardware, software, mobile devices, mobile phones, and peripherals.
20% 2. Consults with users and other DoIT staff to resolve basic hardware problems:
- Reports maintenance problems to appropriate areas.
- Performs diagnosis and resolves system related problems including interfaces to Active Directory, network integrations, and software applications/products using the ability to adapt complex processing to different system/program requirements.
- Confers with vendors for advanced software and hardware problems.
- Serves as liaison between agency customers, vendors and DoIT management/technicians for problem resolutions.
15% 3. Meets with users to determine user needs and objectives:
- Develops recommendations to accommodate user’s requests and ensures compatibility with existing hardware and software standards.
- Researches software requirements, tests and installs Americans with Disabilities Act compliant hardware and software requests, including testing and deploying.
- Implements software and operating system upgrades.
- Develops and updates documentation concerning the administration of customer desktop computer environments.

20% 4. Serves as project coordinator for standard projects including small/medium size hardware/software installations and deployments:
- Determines and coordinates project components such as project scheduling and assignments.
- Assigns and reviews work of project analyst staff.
- Provides expertise, guidance, and direction to staff.
- Reviews results and incorporates individual components of the project into the final products.
5% 5. Monitors trouble tickets to ensure acceptable service levels for providing break/fix services within listed time frames are being met:
- Escalates time sensitive trouble calls to senior staff and/or appropriate vendor for faster resolution time
5% 6. Provides group or individual assistance and training to customers on installed hardware and software and other functional areas including, but not limited to, network and server hardware, software, and peripherals.
5% 7. Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field:
- Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and maintain current on IT products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
- Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations.
5% 8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college with coursework in computer science or directly related fields.
- Requires one (1) year of professional experience in Client Services or a related Information Technology field.
Specialized Skills
- Requires one (1) year of professional experience in End-User Computing supporting Microsoft Windows, Mac iOS Operating Systems configuration, and Microsoft Office client software products.
- Requires one (1) year of professional experience with Active Directory.
- Requires one (1) year of professional experience with automated equipment, scheduling, coordinating, and supporting end user hardware, software, and application systems.
- Requires one (1) year of professional experience with desktop, laptop, mobile phone and mobile device hardware configurations and hardware/software troubleshooting tools and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- One (1) year of professional experience in End-User Computing supporting Microsoft Windows, Mac iOS Operating Systems configuration, and Microsoft Office client software products.
- One (1) year of professional experience with Active Directory.
- One (1) year of professional experience with automated equipment, scheduling, coordinating, and supporting end user hardware, software, and application systems.
- One (1) year of professional experience with desktop, laptop, mobile phone and mobile device hardware configurations and hardware/software troubleshooting tools and procedures.
- One (1) year of professional experience adapting complex processing to different system and program requirements.
- Ability to coordinate projects including scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work.
- Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with agency officials, associates, vendors, clients, and others.
- Developed verbal and written communications skills to present technical information to others with clarity and precision.
- Ability to analyze data and adopt an effective course of action.
