With an annual budget of over $600 million in state and federal funds, 10 regional offices, 3 laboratories and over 1,100 employees, IDPH is equipped to fulfill its mission of protecting the health and wellness of the people of Illinois through the prevention, health promotion, regulation and control of disease and injury. Situated in the Office of Health Care Regulation, the Bureau of Long Term Care coordinates surveying activities and enforcement actions across all of Illinois’ long term care facilities, ensuring quality of care and life for residents. Activities of the Bureau also include those aimed at collaborating with various stakeholders and other state agencies to transform long term care in response to an increased demand for high quality care and services throughout all programs and facilities.
Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated, detailed orientated individual to serve as Qualified Dietitian 3 within the Division of Field Operations, Region 7. This individual will conduct surveys of long-term care facilities located in Region 7 (Northern Illinois), including health and safety, state licensure, federal certification and complaint surveys. The Dietitian is able to survey independently, provides leadership to the survey team on matters involving nutrition and is responsible for preparing written survey documentation, testifying in court and performing monitoring functions.
Job Responsibilities
- Surveys long term care facilities to determine compliance with state licensure requirements, federal certification mandates, and Department directives, program policies and procedures.
- Investigates complex and sensitive long-term care complaints raising nutritional issues to ensure consistency of technical interpretations.
- As a coordinator of the health facility survey team, reviews and evaluates survey results.
- Provides technical interpretation to facility owners and operators of long-term care facilities.
- Completes necessary training.
- Attends meetings and workshops.
- Under the direction of Regional Manager, assists in moving residents to other facilities in decertification or emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the responsibilities enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires possession of a valid Illinois certificate as a registered Dietitian and knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, supplemented by a master’s degree in nutrition, dietetics or food service management and one year of professional experience in nutrition, dietetics or food service management; preferably requires registration by the American Dietetic Association.
- Requires three years of experience as a health facilities surveyor.
- Requires successful completion of both state and federal Basic Surveyor Orientation courses.
- Requires certification of having successfully completed the Health Care Financing Administration’s Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Training.
Conditions of Employment
