Description
The Broomfield Library is looking to fill multiple on-call Substitute Circulation Clerk positions. This position is scheduled as needed for coverage.
These substitute positions provide customer service for the general public and perform a variety of routine and repetitive clerical work in support of library circulation services. The incumbent’s primary responsibilities include performing a variety of clerical tasks related to the City and County’s Library, Arts & History function and providing information and assistance to City and County staff and the public.
Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties
General Duties:
Performs routine customer assistance and clerical work in support of the Library Department including greeting and welcoming the public, charging/discharging books and other materials, assisting patrons with library card registration, collecting fines and fees, processing credit card payments, and entering data into library’s computer system. Answers and directs telephone calls empties book drop bins and shelves library materials. Maintains confidentiality of all patron data and information. Maintains records, files, and other materials according to established methods and procedures. Follows up on patron record issues. Operates a personal computer and applicable software. Processes incoming and outgoing Prospector and FLC consortium loans and returns, and assists with repair and maintenance of library materials. Identifies and recommends improvements in divisional and departmental operations to ensure support functions are efficient and cost effective. Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents. Uses all required safety equipment. Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Training – High school graduation or GED; preferably with some course work in general office practices such as word processing, simple bookkeeping and filing. Some post high school education preferred. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
Experience – Two years of increasingly responsible clerical experience preferably in a library or other public sector entity.
OR
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: – Applicants must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: customer service assessment, oral board, reference checks, background check including local police check and sex-offender list.
Working Conditions
- The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
- Work may be scheduled Monday through Sunday, including some holiday and evening hours.
- Physical demands are described as light (exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects) to medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects).
- Incumbent may be on their feet for approximately four to eight hours in a shift.
- Requires standing at the front desk, pushing a heavy cart of books, bending to retrieve items from the shelves or courier bins, and sitting to pull items out of the bins.
