About the Position:
The City of Grand Junction is accepting applications for the Senior Administrative Assistant, Marketing position in the Parks and Recreation Department. This position provides a number of administrative tasks with a heavy emphasis on marketing to support the recreation programming and services, along with the parks operations services. The Department is under the larger City of Grand Junction umbrella, which is a home-rule municipality. Duties include fulfilling administrative tasks, many of which center around marketing, to support the delivery of recreation programs and services of the City including adult and youth sports, aquatics, leisure, and recreational activities, youth camps, fifty-plus programs, fitness and wellness programs, outdoor and environmental programs, programs during out-of-school time, early childhood programs, special events, and clinics.

About the Parks and Recreation Department:
This position promotes the services and encourages the utilization of the City’s indoor and outdoor facilities, including Stocker Stadium and Suplizio Field, Lincoln Park, Canyon View Regional Park, a total of 400 acres of developed parks, 105 acres of cemetery, 81 acres of school grounds that double as public parks and over 500 acres of recreational open space. This position also provides support to the Parks and Recreation Director and the Superintendent positions with the overall internal management of the Department’s operations and services, as well as external planning and growth of the system.

Duties

What You’ll Do:

  • Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, perform a wide variety of complex, responsible and confidential administrative support duties.
  • Perform duties related to the marketing of the Parks and Recreation department through various methods including, but not limited to, the creation of brochures, event posters, shirt designs, and management of multiple social media outlets; take pictures of Parks and Recreation events and settings and manipulate photos using software applications for use in a variety of publications; maintain the department website; create professional presentations for public meetings, City Council presentations, grant applications, etc.
  • Respond to customer inquiries via telephone, personal visits, mail, email, or social media.
  • Serve as the department liaison for the City of Grand Junction Public Information Coordinator group; assist with the creation and distribution of press releases; work with co-workers to learn trends in specialized computer software and social media.
  • Compile reports; purchase and maintain an inventory of supplies; coordinate and document appointments and meeting agendas, minutes, and activities; draft standard and original correspondence.

Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
Success in the Parks and Recreation Administrative Division requires excellent communication, writing, and customer service skills, and the ability to contribute strongly to delivering on the department’s and City’s essential role in serving the community.

Minimum requirements:

  • Two (2) years of administrative support and/or customer service experience
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Some assignments in this classification require possession of, or ability to obtain, Notary Public Commission.

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
