Why does the job exist?
Position will perform and operate diagnostics, conduct maintenance, mechanical and electrical repairs on light duty automotive gasoline and heavy-duty diesel equipment within District One. The position will also provide support in completing and processing work orders in the New Mexico Department of Transportation Fleet Management system to track labor and parts.
How does it get done?
Will Troubleshoot, diagnose and perform repairs and maintain the equipment assigned to the District to ensure safe operating condition for operators and the traveling public. Diagnose and repair electrical systems, hydraulic air brake systems, heating and Air Conditioner Systems. Repair and/overhaul gas and diesel engines transmissions, final drives and pneumatic system. Perform repairs in the District Shop and in the field (roadway and right of way) as required.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
– Diagnosing repairs needed.
– Performing all repairs on heavy equipment.
– Diagnosing and repairing electrical and hydraulic systems.
– Using a computer to keep a record of labor, time, parts used, and repairs performed.
– With researching and ordering parts.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalent and six (6) months of experience in diagnosing and repair of light and heavy equipment to include gas and diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical system diagnostics and repair, preventative maintenance and automotive skills to include brakes, air systems, transmission and suspension. Some welding experience may be required. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License at time of hire or the ability to acquire within 6 months of hire.
Working Conditions
Exposure to noise, fumes, low and high liquid/air pressures, sparks, flames from welding and cutting torches, moving traffic and heavy equipment. walking on hard/smooth surfaces/uneven ground around bridge fixtures; work irregular hours; subject to call out for emergencies. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds & occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Exposure to inclement weather: rain, snow and blowing winds. Ability to use hand tools (manual and powered) such as: band saws, hydraulic presses, tire mounting machines and heavy equipment. Work may also be performed in an office setting to include working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers.
