Why does the job exist?
This position will supervise unit of protective services case workers responsible for coordinating and facilitating the placement of children in CYFD custody by studying both relative and non-relative families interested in becoming foster and adoptive families.
How does it get done?
• Provide direct supervision to placement workers and assigned staff in a manner that is reflective of the Protective Services Division practice model.
• Review practice and provide training, coaching and mentoring to ensure that each employee’s work is reflective of the Protective Services Division practice model.
• Respond to worker and client needs in a timely fashion while in adherence with policy and procedures.
• Identify employee strengths and weaknesses to assist in professional development.
• Review and approve employee work for adherence to policy and procedures as well as Protective Services Division practice model.
• Ensure employees are providing good customer service to foster parents.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited college/university, one (1) years of any combination of experience including working with communities on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health and/or health care, and licensure by the New Mexico Board of Social Work Examiners at the LBSW, LMSW, or LISW level or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with NM requirements OR a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice or Family Services from an accredited college/university and two (2) years of any combination of experience including working with communities on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health and/or health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or related experience totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

• Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.
• If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of “semester hours” in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting: late hours, weekends, on-call and callback work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel is required. Possible exposure to irate clientele. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints. Incumbent will be required to furnish a personal vehicle for carrying out assignments which may include transporting clients including children. Must have own mode of transportation.
