Why does the job exist?
To operates medium to heavy-duty equipment to maintain rural / interstate roads. Conducting snow removal, fencing and guard railing installation as well as traffic control.
How does it get done?
The incumbent will operate a single axle dump truck, large or small front loaders, small pull-type tractors, and axle flatbed dump trucks. Operate self-propelled brooms. Will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties required in a patrol. Use various hand tools, remove snow and respond to emergency operation call outs as necessary. The incumbent will also remove trash, dead animals and debris from the Right-of-Way.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in:
* Perform snow removal operation;
* Fence installation;
* Guard railing/installation; and
* Traffic control.
This position will work in Cerrillos, New Mexico with the NMDOT Cerrillos Patrol.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalent and six (6) months of experience maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment to include loader, five and ten yard dump truck, self-propelled broom, roller, and/or mower. This position may require Herbicide, Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsement. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.
Statutory Requirement:
Must possess a New Mexico Driver’s License and must acquire a New Mexico Class B CDL within 6 months of hire. Post-offer Physical and Pre-Employment Drug Test are required for safety sensitive classifications.

Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions – hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow, exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash, exposure to hazardous chemicals, insects and reptiles, loud noises, confined spaces, stressful situations, subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain, high speed/high volume traffic, interaction with the public, local county, school and city officials by phone an in person, irregular hours day or night, subject to call out for emergencies, heavy lifting, sitting/standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays; extended or irregular hours day or night; and call-out away from post of duty to include nighttime work and snow removal as applicable are required.
