ABOUT THE POSITION
The Web Strategist provides leadership for the development and implementation of web strategy across all Normandale.edu sites to meet the College’s strategic objectives and ensure engaging content for internal and external customers. This position is responsible for the management, vision, and implementation of the Normandale website environment, ensuring compliance with web presence and web communications strategies, and in line with best practices.
The Web Strategist is a collaborative, data-driven partner who works to ensure an engaging web experience that highlights the College’s offerings, strengthens brand recognition, and drives student enrollment. This position meets with department stakeholders to learn about their web-related needs and goals and determine the best path forward. This position serves as the Normandale liaison and primary contact with the Minnesota State ITS (Information Technology Services) Infrastructure team for hosting the Cascade Server tool. The Web Strategist is responsible for the administration of the Cascade Content Management System (CMS) and works closely with the vendor and stakeholders including department content creators, marketing staff, and information technology staff. This position also oversees the content creation and revision process.
The Web Strategist oversees website related contracts, user training, search engine optimization (SEO), browser compatibility, usability, and site performance. This position monitors performance using third-party analytic tools including Google Analytics and others. This position works with the vendor, IT (Information Technology) staff, and others to audit webpages for accuracy and accessibility. This position employs analytical, interpretive, and data-driven thinking to determine improvements needed and the impact of changes. This position assures web content is in compliance with college policies, Minnesota State system policies, state of Minnesota laws, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other federal laws.
This position leads the Web Governance Committee to provide oversight and create appropriate protocols for Normandale’s web presence. The Web Governance Committee is an interdisciplinary committee made up of administrators, faculty, and staff who decide the College’s long-range planning and governance for all college-related websites. The Web Strategist reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications.
This position will actively advance the college’s strategic goals, including to achieve equity in educational outcomes and to support a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.
Required Qualifications
These qualifications are required to move forward; as such, ensure your application contains descriptions of your education and work experience sufficient to demonstrate competency in each of the following):
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Three (3) years of experience in content design and publishing using a content management system
- One (1) year of experience administering a website content management system or similar technology
- Experience utilizing web analytic tools including Google Analytics
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s) that will be interviewed for
- Ability to use gathered assets including written copy, audio, video, and photos to develop engaging content
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within the assigned deadlines
- Knowledge of user-oriented web design and responsive design techniques
- Excellent collaboration, teamwork and relationship building skills
- Record of success in working in a diverse work environment
- Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability and commitment to collaborate and develop effective relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and at different levels in the college.
- Experience working with customers or stakeholders and translating business needs into web content
- Experience with Hannon Hill Cascade web content management system
- Experience analyzing and improving search engine optimization (SEO)
- Experience with vendor management
- Experience in managing workflows and quality control processes in a content management system
- Experience troubleshooting website errors and performance issues
- Experience teaching and/or training end-users
