POSITION: Field Service Engineer II
DIVISION: Metrology and Analysis Systems Division (MAD)
COMPANY: Hitachi High-Tech America, Inc. (HTA)
TRAVEL: Up to 25% (domestically and internationally)
REMOTE WORKING: Onsite 90% / Remote 10%
EXPECTED PAY RANGE: $24.04 – $33.06
This pay range is for the position’s base pay only. This position may be eligible for other compensation including incentive pay and/or allowances. Candidates will receive additional information during the interview and selection process.
POSITION SUMMARY
Field Service Engineers (FSE) are responsible for the installation, preventative maintenance, and repairs of Hitachi’s semiconductor equipment at customer facilities. FSE’s will maintain the following sub-systems: Electronic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, vacuum, optical, lasers, and wafer transfer systems (including robots). Training is provided on a formal or on-the-job (OTJ) basis. FSE’s report to customer manufacturing facilities on a daily basis and attend daily customer pass-down meetings as required. FSE’s help Hitachi meet equipment uptime and availability commitments. FSE’s perform timely and regular communication, including plan-of-action (POA) documents to report on escalation activities. FSE’s participate in an on-call schedule as applicable.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete assigned formal and OJT with the goal of instrument certification
- Manage and maintain traveling inventory according to department policy and procedure
- Protect and maintain company property (i.e., traveling inventory, company care, test equipment, tools, etc.)
- Pick up and return messages and service calls from customers in a manner meeting service department policies
- Maintain appropriate records of all work performed and training received
- Portray professionalism and pride in appearance while conforming to company policies
- Provide a positive attitude to all employees and customers
- Comply and adhere to company policies
- Strong work ethic
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- AS degree in Electronics Engineering (or relevant field) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- BS degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred
EXPERIENCE, TRAVEL, and OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Experience using digital volt meters, oscilloscopes, hand tools, and computers
- Experience reading electrical schematic
- Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally
- Eligible to be added to HTA’s insurance
- Must have and retain a valid driver’s license in resident State
- Eligible for and receive a company credit card
- Eligible to acquire a passport
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge and understanding of analog and digital circuitry
- Knowledge and understanding of mechanical principles
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with management, co-workers, internal and external customer
- Ability to effectively communicate information to customers and management regarding service activities and schedules
- Ability to follow precise instructions
- Ability to perform service calls (Preventive Maintenance and Repairs) on one or more models of a product line (measured by instrument certification)
- Knowledge and understanding of physics and chemistry
- Ability to work from schematics using various test equipment and mathematical calculations specific to electronic
- Ability to effectively interface with customers and service department personnel
- Ability to communicate (read, write, and speak) in English effectively
- Ability to communicate (read, write, and/or speak) in Japanese a plus
- Ability to drive an automobile
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to see small objects within a confined area
- Ability to quickly transport from location to location (i.e., air, car, etc.)
- Ability to transport parts and/or tools from car to equipment site
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally (4-33% of the time)
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently (33-66% of the time)
- Ability to use hand tools
- Hand-eye coordination at a level to support a range of delicate activities
