Early Education Specialist:
- Develops and delivers age-appropriate activities and curriculum to support early education programs, with an emphasis on environmental education.
- Coordinates with educators to plan, deliver programs, and provide training.
- Manages development and maintenance of early education programs including working with students, families, educators, and supervisors.
- Work requires independent judgment, initiative, creative problem-solving, and quality customer service. Work is performed in indoor and outdoor settings.
Essential Functions
Supports and at times, delivers early education and environmental education programs for youth and families. Provides assistance and ongoing support to early childhood educators to maximize the implementation of authentic learning activities and creative use of early education materials, implementation of effective teaching strategies to maximize teacher-child interactions and enhance teacher knowledge and skills in the evaluation of child progress. Works closely with the Education Manager and Program Coordinator to ensure program goals and objectives meet relevant departmental and City initiatives. Ensures the development and maintenance of early education curricula, event-based lessons, and community programs. Ensures that programs meet the needs of students and their families as well as providing resources when necessary. Aids participants in transition to kindergarten. Ensures early education best practices inform all programs. (60%)
Serves as the contact for early education participants and families when developmental issues arise. Collects feedback from students, parents, and educators to improve early education programs offered. Meets with parents to ensure needs are being met. Offers a high level of customer service. Answers phone calls, assists facility customers, and provides answers to the public as needed. Acts as liaison to organization and outside groups to foster community partnerships. (20%)
Works closely with the Education Program Coordinator to support temporary or term-limited educators in the delivery of early education programs. Assists coordinator with the hiring of early educators, provides training, and evaluates performance and conduct. Makes program recommendations based upon need of service, enrollment, and recovery. Works with coordinator and educators to ensure adequate resources and supplies. (10%)
Works closely with the Education Program Coordinator to assist with facility maintenance and operation needs as pertains to early education programs. (10%)

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Bachelor’s degree in child development, early or special education, education, environmental education, or related field and one year of professional early education experience with ages 3-6, and preferably one year of experience in outdoor education, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education.
Working knowledge of the principles, standards, practices, information sources, and trends in the field of early education programming for youth.
Ability to: respectfully interact with coworkers, internal and external partners, and general public; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Master’s degree in early or special education.
Experience with Microsoft Suite programs including Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.
Proven experience in teaching, group facilitation, public speaking, formal training in an environmental degree program, and the ability and willingness to interact and engage a variety of stakeholders and children of all ages.
Experience managing volunteers.
Experience in project management and development in a related position.
Licensing And Other Requirements
Valid state-issued driver’s license.
