Salary: Salary range is $98,032-$170,089. Starting salary will be based on experience. The starting salary will be less than the midpoint of the range.
Remote work: This position works on-site in the Minnesota Senate Building and Capitol during the legislative session. When the legislature is not in session, some remote work options may be available.
Days of Work/Hours: Monday-Friday/8am-4:30pm. During the legislative session, hours may be longer

Position Summary
This position directs the operations of Senate Media Services, the non-partisan television broadcast and photography department of the Minnesota Senate. The position ensures that the office is achieving its mission of informing the public about the Senate and its actions, including the work of the legislature and legislative process. It serves as Executive Producer of the Senate television broadcast and web-based video programming. It represents the Secretary of the Senate in negotiating broadcast distribution contracts with the Minnesota Public Television Association. It guides the planning, development and integration of television and photographic production equipment and facilities. It works with the Secretary of the Senate in planning and approving department expenditures.
This position supervises the Director of Engineering and Operations, Producer/Moderator, Producers, and Chief Photographer.
Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as Executive Producer of Senate Media Services television broadcast and video web-based programming to ensure that Senate Media Services television broadcast and web-based programming is informative and accessible to the public through television network and social media distribution.
- Manage and direct the department of Senate Media Services to ensure staff have adequate resources and direction to achieve its mission of informing the public about Senate and legislative activities.
Minimum Qualifications
A degree in Communications with an emphasis in public affairs or political science, AND one year of experience in a television producing role
OR
A degree in an unrelated field AND five years of experience in a television producing role
OR
Nine years or more of producing television programming or producing live coverage programming
AND
One year of supervisory responsibilities in providing guidance, work direction, and managing work performance of staff
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience producing a public affairs television program or live political coverage (experience in public affairs television production should include responsibilities in planning, producing, and delivering programming intended to inform the public of state or local issues)
- Supervisory experience sufficient to hire, reward, discipline, provide adequate resources, manage performance, and provide direction to enable staff to meet the job responsibilities, expectations, and fulfill Senate Media objectives
- Strategic vision to develop, plan and execute nonpartisan television programming and services that are intended to inform the public of Senate and legislative action
- Leadership skills to sufficient to manage the live television coverage of Senate committee hearings, floor sessions, press conferences, and public affairs studio programming, including the supervision of staff (moderators, producers, engineers, and production staff)
- Communication skills to effectively communicate with Senate staff, Senators, and the media concerning live coverage and programming
- Ability to negotiate and work cooperatively with outside organizations, including television broadcast entities, video streaming organizations, and broadcast equipment vendors to purchase or utilize services or equipment
