Washington County’s Department of Land Use and Transportation is recruiting for a Building Official within The Planning & Development Services Division.
The Position
The Building Official is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all program functions in Building Services. The Building Official will supervise senior-level staff and be responsible for complex technical and programmatic tasks. This position is responsible for administering and enforcing the building inspection program attending to all aspects of code enforcement and the issuance of building permits. This position responds to public inquiries and appeals making final decisions and interpretations of all code specialties.
This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with working 2-3 days a week remote.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or other relevant field; AND Four (4) years of experience in the architectural, structural engineering, building inspection, public agency building department or general construction field, two (2) years of which must be in architectural, construction, or buildings supervision, or related field supervision. OR
- Associates degree in Industrial Technology, Building Inspection Technology other relevant field; AND Six (6) years experience in the architectural, structural engineering, building inspection, public agency building department or general construction field, two (2) years of which must be in architectural, construction, or buildings supervision, or related field supervision. OR
- Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in the architectural, structural engineering, building inspection, public agency building department or general construction field, two (2) years of which must be in architectural, construction, or buildings supervision, or related field supervision.
- Possession of an Oregon Building Official Certification or be able to successfully pass the Oregon Building Official Certification course within six (6) months of hire.
Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities And Specialty Requirements
- Possession of a valid Oregon Inspector Certification, or ability to obtain within the first 6 months of hire.
