The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is a six-time award-winning, nationally recognized agency and recipient of the National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Parks and Recreation Management, serving the Maryland region adjacent to the Nation’s Capital.

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County’s Public Affairs and Community Engagement Division (PACE) is seeking an Information Systems Specialist II. The PACE focuses on promoting park and recreation programs, encourages participation and involvement, and informs residents of available services through various forms of communication media. The Information Systems Specialist II reports to the Website Manager within the Web Unit of Public Affairs and Community Engagement.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with medium to large-scale websites and working with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress and Drupal. They will also be responsible for maintaining and optimizing the Department of Parks and Recreation’s website. This role also involves collaborating with various divisions and departments to ensure smooth operations, troubleshooting technical issues, implementing software solutions, and providing end-user support. They will work collaboratively with staff, management, the Customer Service Desk, and the Information Technology Services Division to ensure website goals are met and exceed expectations.
Examples of Important Duties

  1. Website Management and Maintenance:
    • Monitor, manage, and maintain the department’s website, including servers, databases, networks, and other infrastructure components.
    • Implement security protocols and measures to safeguard sensitive data and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
    • Perform routine system updates, patches, and backups to ensure system integrity and availability.
  2. Software Implementation and Support:
    • Evaluate, select, and implement software applications that align with departments and website’s needs and goals.
    • Provide technical support for software installations, configurations, and updates to maximize website functionality.
    • Troubleshoot software-related issues and collaborate with vendors or developers to resolve complex problems.
  3. User Support and Training:
    • Provide end-user support for website and app issues, responding to inquiries and resolving technical problems in a timely manner.
    • Develop user training materials and conduct training sessions to help employees effectively use website and apps.
  4. Data Management and Analysis:
    • Manage and ensure the accuracy and integrity of data stored within the website and databases.
    • Generate reports, analyze data trends, and present insights to relevant stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and recommend technology solutions to address operational challenges.
    • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating technical concepts into understandable terms.
  6. Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:
    • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to website, apps and network systems.
    • Escalate complex problems to appropriate teams or external vendors when necessary.
  7. Technology Trends and Research:
    • Stay up to date with the latest trends, developments, and best practices in information systems, technology infrastructure, and cybersecurity.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems or any related field.
  2. Two (2) years of experience in applications support and development.
  3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
  4. Depending upon area of assignment, a valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) are a plus.
  • Proven experience (5 years or more) working in information systems management, system administration, or a related role.
  • Proficiency in system administration, network management, database management, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of software implementation, integration, and support.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented and proactive with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with data security and compliance regulations.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and learn new tools quickly.

Eligibility
You have 45 days from your hire date to elect your benefits. Your coverage begins on the first of the month following receipt of your enrollment forms and required documentation.
