SG&R’s Global Food Security and Agriculture Team is working to strengthen agricultural markets, expand the on- and off-farm workforce, improve evidence-based program planning and policy development, and tackle the dual burden of malnutrition around the globe. RTI’s work helps foster stronger food systems, reduce malnutrition in all its forms, build resilience and engage the next generation of food security leaders.

IDG’s Global Health Division works in Neglected Tropical Diseases, infectious disease, including TB, HIV/AIDS, and Malaria; global health security, Heath Systems Strengthening – including Health Governance, Health Finance, Human Resources for Health, Capacity Building, and Health Policy and Advocacy; Public-Private Partnerships; and Maternal-Neonatal-Child Heath and Reproductive Health and Family Planning. We address a range of public health problems to reduce disparities, lower disease burdens, and build locally owned sustainable health programs in lower- and middle-income countries.
Project Description

The goal of the $45 million USAID-funded Enhancing Nutrition Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning in the Health Sector (NuMERAL) program is to support USAID’s Office of Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition (GH/MCHN) with collaborative generation and use of evidence in nutrition, and to enhance local capacity for nutrition monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning in the health sector. The Activity will fill evidence gaps to improve nutrition outcomes through health systems while ensuring local partners design, implement, disseminate, and use such evidence for policies and programs.
Position Description

RTI is seeking a Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist for the anticipated Enhancing Nutrition Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning in the Health Sector (NuMERAL) program. This position will be responsible for facilitating the translation of project-generated research into practical application at country level within project countries. In collaboration with senior leaders within the project and with local researchers themselves, the position will identify relevant opportunities for dissemination of research findings for each study and will support local researchers to share their findings in local and global fora. Key audiences will include country-level health policymakers and practitioners as well as USAID and other donor stakeholders at country and global levels. The position will also lead the project’s efforts in collating and presenting project learning to the global community through external platforms. The position will report to the Deputy Project Director. This position will be based in Washington, DC, with telecommuting considered on a case-by-case basis. The position will be expected to travel internationally up to 15% of the time.

This position is contingent upon award and funding.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership for communications and knowledge management.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Research to Practice dissemination plans globally and at country-level.
  • Support dissemination strategies at country level to share findings, produced by local researchers, with local stakeholders, USAID and other relevant donors and implementing partners.
  • Curate learning within the project and share learning externally.
  • Disseminate findings through listservs, webinars, forums, pause and reflect sessions, conferences, and other events.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing forums to ensure that project learning is relevant and used by key stakeholders.
  • Support local researchers to identify appropriate communication and dissemination strategies.
  • Generate stakeholder communication to enhance their understanding and uptake of nutrition research findings for program and policy decisions.
  • Supervise vendors, such as local communications firms, to produce policy briefs, provide public speaking coaching, translation, and other dissemination tasks.
  • Facilitate participation in peer-to-peer knowledge networks and in regional and global nutrition conferences.
  • Ensure compliance with the USAID Branding and Marking Plan.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience, or master’s degree and 1 year, with degree preferably in communications.
  • Demonstrated relevant experience leading communications and/or knowledge management activities.
  • Familiarity and experience working in different cultural contexts and in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Previous experience of working with USAID programming.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven ability to work under pressure, and with multiple concurrent demands.
  • Proficiency in English, with proficiency in Spanish and/or French language(s) preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
