Position classification: Hybrid — Job duties and expectations allow for onsite and remote work scheduled every week. Employees in this classification are regularly scheduled onsite one (1) to four (4) days per week based on the County needs and as determined by Department Director. Hybrid classified roles can be onsite more than the set minimum based on employee preference.
What Success Looks Like In This Job
Senior GIS Analyst is responsible for statistical and spatial analysis. Duties include a high amount of data conversion, data analysis, and solution implementation. It is the role of the Senior Analyst to transfer data to and from a variety of systems and databases to prepare information, maps, and reports to support decisions from this created information. The Senior GIS Analyst utilizes Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of variables in relation to geographic location. The senior IT/GIS analyst installs and maintains GIS software and supports GIS desktop users.
Examples of Duties for Success
- Perform statistical analysis, geographic analysis, and mapping using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.
- Perform spatial analysis of various digital spatial and tabular data.
- Build and maintain GIS models using ESRI’s ModelBuilder.
- Perform topology corrections and make geometric modifications.
- Provide maps and data sets to clients to supplement analysis.
- Create informative, accurate, and cartographically correct maps.
- Implement, integrate, and maintain GIS applications utilizing the ArcGIS suite of software.
- Interpret aerial photography to develop new GIS data sets.
- Input spatial features into GIS databases by methods such as tracing digitizing, or implementing surveyor notations.
- Design, develop, and load data to spatial databases.
- Maintain and update spatial and tabular databases.
- Implement research and develop complex databases.
- Install ArcGIS desktop applications.
- Diagnose and “troubleshoot” problems experienced with the use of GIS software.
- Provide training to county staff in the use of various GIS technologies; Design and implement training.
- Design and develop documentation related to GIS Operations.
- Perform accurate land ownership records research.
- Perform spatial data projection / transformation.
- Interpret complex spatial data applying the appropriate data conversion techniques to project, re-project, transform, or rubber-sheet, to accurately register to county coordinates.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications for Success
- Proven experience utilizing ArcGIS software in an enterprise environment.
- Proven experience in ArcGIS, Desktop Suite, Geodatabase, ArcGIS Online, and ModelBuilder
- Proven experience with GIS data architecture and Geodatabase support.
- Solid understanding of GIS theory and applications.
- Superior knowledge of cartographic fundamentals, as well as principles of cartography and graphic design.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to operate printers/plotters, digitizer, and scanners.
- Superior oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective multi-tasking/prioritizing and time management skills.
- Ability to learn new concepts quickly and adapt to take on new assignments and projects.
- Familiarity with GPS data collection and processing.
- Knowledge of GeoCortex and Pictometry is a plus.
- Knowledge or experience with ArcGIS Pro.
- Familiarity with remote sensing software is a plus.
- Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
More Qualifications for Success
- Experience:
- A minimum of seven (7) years of experience with ArcGIS Suite in a GIS Analyst capacity.
- Experience within a county government or large organization preferred.
