In Person Algebra I Tutor – Queens, NY
Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated Algebra 1 tutor to join our team and provide small group tutoring to senior high school students who will be retaking the Algebra 1 Regents exam in January. This program will take place in Rockaway Park High School for Environmental Sustainability, located at 100-00 Beach Channel Drive, Queens, NY 11694. Tutors will support students by reviewing past Regents exam materials either in the classroom or pulling the students out of class into the library. The tutor will work in-person Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:20pm to 4:20pm, starting October 31 and running until February 15, 2024. There will be no tutoring sessions on the following dates due to conferences and holidays:
- November 7
- December 26
- December 28
- January 15
- January 23
- January 25
Qualifications:
- Previous experience tutoring or teaching Algebra 1 preferred
- Willingness to work as a team and support both teachers and students
- Strong communication skills required to collaborate with teachers and students
- Available to work the hours specified above Tuesdays and Thursdays at the school site
- Dedication to supporting academic and personal success, particularly among minority and low-income students.
- Passion for educational equity and social justice
Responsibilities:
As an Education Champion, you will work collaboratively with teachers and school leaders to provide the targeted support and interventions students need on any given day. You’ll be assigned to small group instruction. Your role will be instrumental in ensuring students have the rigorous and culturally responsive educational support they deserve.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive pay rate of $24/hr with the opportunity to earn $26.40/hr* with a completion bonus.
- Education Champions are not paid during school breaks (Winter Break, Spring Break, etc.).
- Education Champions will be required to attend one 30-minute event per quarter and complete 5 minutes of asynchronous training per week.
