Director, Adult Day Center (ADC)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Wise & Healthy Aging Adult Day Center is licensed for 60 participants and is located in Santa Monica at the organization’s headquarters. The Center is the only state-designated Alzheimer’s Day Care Resources Center (ADCRC) on the Los Angeles Westside.
To ensure quality, effective, and efficient operations of the Wise & Healthy Aging Adult Day Center (ADC), the Director oversees programming, operations, and staff and outreach efforts for the center’s sustainability and growth. programming includes general adult day care, a Spanish-speaking Somos Amigos adult day care program, and Wise Minds groups for those with early memory loss.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the ADC, applying knowledge of and compliance with all contracts, laws and regulations that fund and/or regulate adult day care, maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, participants/clients and volunteers.
- Work with staff to develop and maintain a comprehensive schedule of enrichment opportunities and programming supporting the health and well-being of ADC participants/clients. Identify program needs and recommend appropriate options for meeting those needs, including appropriate funding options.
- Develop and maintain a staffing plan that ensures continuity of effective service delivery within the ADC, including supervision of staff, performance evaluations, and training.
- Develop and implement regular outreach efforts into the community, ensuring that the program reflects the diversity and needs of the communities served and meets or exceeds the ADC’s target goals. This includes expanding the fee-for-service components for adult day care and community benefit-based caregiver support services.
- Work with families and other funding sources to support the utilization of adult day care to benefit the participant and respite for the family.
- Administer the scholarship and subsidized-funded process to consider eligible participants/clients, including monitoring and tracking for reporting purposes.
- Preparing and monitoring program expenditures to maintain a fiscally sound program, including budget preparations and reports and meeting established deadlines. Work closely with the Finance-Accounting division in the reconciliation of billing.
- Prepare required reports of the program’s overall effectiveness, mid-year, and fiscal year-end or as needed per private funding requirements.
- Establish and maintain a system that ensures quality control of services rendered, as well as evaluation and monitoring of processes, including but not limited to updated client records, individualized client/family conferences, systematic review of records, assessment of client satisfaction, assessment of client satisfaction, and other appropriate parameters.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In emergencies, staff illness, or vacation, as necessary, provide backup direct services.
- Prepare proposals and grants for current and potential funding sources as needed
- Work collaboratively with other programs within Wise & Healthy Aging in support of referrals and/or staffing needs
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Undergraduate degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field. Advanced degree and/or licensure (e.g., MSW and LCSW) preferred in the Human Services field, preferably in Social Work, Public/Health Administration, Business Administration, Clinical Psychology, and Gerontology.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 5 years experience managing staff, social service programs, and budgets, including adult day service-type facilities.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience working with the elderly and their caregivers/families; experience working specifically with persons with dementia is preferred
- Clinical working knowledge of chronic ailments of the frail elderly, such as Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and arthritis
- Knowledgeable and conversant with Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Reporting requirements.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must demonstrate the ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively and manage and motivate staff. Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and exercise diplomacy in interactions with others.
- Must obtain upon hire and maintain a valid CPR and First Aid card, be able to clear a fingerprinting DOJ background check, and complete a Health Screening Report within three days of hire (proof of TB clearance and proof of flu and COVID vaccination required) must be kept current every four years as required by the County of Los Angeles)
- Must be able to maneuver up to 25 pounds and have a valid driver’s license and proof of car insurance
