Job Description

A strong understanding of two-phase flow dynamics including application to analysis of nuclear reactor heat transfer is required for this position. This includes familiarity with boiling, flow regimes, and two-phase pressure drop and heat transfer.

This is a unique opportunity to become a part of the team designing the next-generation submarine platform. The unit is focused on evaluating the heat transfer for potential reactor concepts for a next generation attack submarine. Because this project is currently in the pre-conceptual design phase, the successful candidate for this position will be capable of applying a range of analysis techniques, from simple, first-principles-based scoping tools up through detailed analyses utilizing the latest design codes. This phase will be followed by a formal core design effort, where the responsibilities for this position may expand to include evaluation and justification of design assumptions, support for model qualification, and/or interfacing with the testing community to deliver necessary data. This project requires frequent and effective communication with other core design, materials performance, core manufacturing, and reactor plant development groups collaborating on this effort. This position provides opportunities to influence technology development for performance gains and cost reductions.
