POSITION TITLE: Philanthropy Events Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Philanthropy Events Manager at Scripps Research in La Jolla, California, home of some of the world’s most renowned scientists. As an integral part of the Marketing and Communications team and in partnership with the Philanthropy department, this position is responsible for producing high quality in-person and virtual events to further advance the institute’s philanthropic priorities and brand.

The Philanthropy Events Manager should have experience in special event management, provide outstanding customer service, be an enthusiastic professional, and be able to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This role will be responsible for the development, management, implementation and facilitation of a wide range of philanthropy-specific events, including but not limited to: symposium and lectures; community and donor engagement events; onsite campus tours; and philanthropic events related to campaign and fundraising initiatives. The ideal candidate has a deep passion for events and a hands-on approach.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Participates in strategic discussions and decision-making around priorities, opportunities, potential conflicts, and other issues related to the successful production of events.
  • Collaborates with colleagues across the institute to maximize potential and meet event goals and
  • Manages each event from the planning stage, creates and maintains event budget, oversees event implementation (both virtual and in-person), and posts event Assists in securing event speakers and hosts. Ensures appropriate A/V technical support. Plans and manages all logistics, including vendor coordination.
  • Collaborates with colleagues on copywriting, design and distribution of event print and digital
  • Coordinates with both internal and external speakers, hosts, attendees and other event participants.
  • Develops, controls and administers the events budget and ensures it is properly
  • In partnership with key staff, develops and/or ensures utilization of standardized systems and technology to automate elements of event planning, tracking, and production whenever possible.
  • Prepares event analysis and reports related to attendance, engagement and experience that can be used to structure future event discussions and production. Manages post-event attendee follow-up communications.
  • Manages logistics and attendee communication related to institute sponsorships and other hosted events.
  • Supports larger institute events team, as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience and proven experience in planning, production, and management of large, small and high-profile events with diverse audiences.
  • An ideal candidate would have nonprofit fundraising event experience
  • Demonstrated integrity, dependability, sound judgement, teambuilding and resourcefulness to establish and maintain collaborative, positive and effective working relationships with multiple and diverse constituency groups.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge of Blackbaud or similar nonprofit software a plus.
  • Familiarity with Zoom or another virtual event platform.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, listening skills.
  • Recognizes priorities, works well under pressure, ability to meet deadlines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May include: Stationary position for an extended period of time, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.

COMPENSATON:

The expected hiring range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000/annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
