Description
The Career Center, Career Advisor provides comprehensive case management for the intensive services under the workforce programs (i.e. WIA, CAP, SNAP, etc.) and ensure that all services are delivered in accordance with South Florida Workforce policies and procedures. This position performs professional level duties requiring specific knowledge and independent judgment. Work is performed under the general administrative direction of the Director, Career Center.
Examples of Duties
1. Conduct General and Program Specific Welfare Transition (WT) / Career Advancement Program (CAP), Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Wagner Peyser Program (WP), Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) and other related programs orientations and assists customers in determining the level of services needed.
2. Conduct individual or group counseling sessions and assessments to assist customers employment goals and measurement of outcomes.
3. Conduct comprehensive assessments to assist customers in their educational and vocational objectives development, goal attainment, referral for program services if needed, referrals for partner agencies such as domestic violence if needed.
4. Conduct job readiness and other workshops, as needed, including, but not limited to resume writing, interview skills, etc.
5. Coordinate and monitor services, including comprehensive tracking of customer activities in relation to Career Plan.
6. Refer customers to available community and program resources such as housing, food, clothing, school programs and vocational opportunities.
7. Perform case file management including, but not limited to data entry into computer tracking system One Stop System Tracking (OSST) and Employ Florida Marketplace (EFM).
8. Interpret program regulations or benefit requirements and facilitate customer access to community and program resources, including providing information about school programs, vocational opportunities or services, relevant mental health services, and other services as applicable.
9. Coordinate with Job Placement Specialist as appropriate for the development of customer employment opportunities and job placement.
10. Perform customers and employers follow-up interview and maintains case records relative to employment retention.
11. Exercise professional judgment, discretion, confidentiality and sensitivity in all communications.
12. Conduct “Rapid Response” activities for mass layoffs and company closings, as needed. 13. Serve as “Disability Navigator” as needed.
14. Assist in College recruitment and retention efforts, as appropriate.
15. Required to attend Graduation/Commencement ceremonies.
16. Other related duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- One year of customer service experience.
- Multilingual (Spanish and/or Creole) preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
- Required to be Tier I certified within 6 months of employment.

FLORIDA RETIREMENT SYSTEM – Full-time and regular part-time employees participate in the Florida Retirement System (FRS). The College contributes the current retirement percentage of the individual’s salary, and the employee would contribute the current retirement percentage based on their salary. Employees may choose the Pension Plan or the Investment Plan.
PAID TUITION – Tuition fees for credit courses taken at the College are waived for employees and their eligible dependents, including domestic partners. Tuition and student fees are waived for non-credit physical education courses. Contingent upon approval, $1,000 reimbursement is available each fiscal year through Staff & Program Development (S&PD), for completion of course work toward a degree which results in demonstrated benefit to the College.
