Why does the job exist?
This position for the Public Education Department (PED), Student, Schools, and Family Support Bureau, will provide general support and assistance, leadership and direction, for grants that the bureau manages as directed by bureau director. This position serves as a liaison between federal requirements and real time implementation in the field of grants the bureau manages for local educational agencies (LEAs) and other sub-grantees. In New Mexico, LEAs are districts and state-charted charter schools. This position will assist the state in appropriate use of grant funds the bureau manages.
Review and approve/disapprove applications, application revisions, budget adjustment requests (BARs), and requests for reimbursement for LEAs and other sub-grantees
Provide technical assistance and professional development to LEAs and other sub-grantees
Direct assigned programs with support of bureau director and other bureau staff
Monitor compliance with program requirements for assigned LEAs and other sub-grantees
Provide leadership, professional development, technical consultation, training, and direction to LEAs and other sub-grantees
Develop, in collaboration with other bureau staff, applications, technical assistance manuals, and related publications
Develop reporting instruments per federal and state requirements
Provide required data and reporting to the United States Department of Education, other PED bureaus, and other entities as required.

How does it get done?
Provide appropriate technical assistance to grantee staff in assigned areas by defining needs, researching issues and determining appropriate methods for provision of support.
Review assigned grant applications and budgets for compliance with federal regulations.
Keep funds flowing to LEAs and other sub-grantees by providing timely training and review and approval of applications, budgets, and requests for reimbursement.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in administering federal programs, designing and delivering professional development for adult learners, classroom teaching experience, and a strong work ethic.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico’s Driver’s License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
