Why does the job exist?
Performs diagnostics, conducts maintenance, mechanical and electrical repairs on Police vehicles, consisting of gasoline powered cars and gasoline and diesel powered light trucks. This will include up-fitting new Police Units with specialized equipment for law enforcement.
How does it get done?
Work primarily in the Espanola shop with occasional field assignments, using hand and powered tool as well as utilizing computerized automotive diagnostic equipment such as a laptop and/or a diagnostic scanner. This is a single occupant shop so applicant must be self motivated
Who are the customers?
Officers and civilian employees of the New MExico Department of Public Safety and new Mexico State Police.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will
– Posses ASE Certification as a Master Mechanic
– Have at least 2 years experience as an automotive service technician or mechanic in a maintenance facility and/or repair shop setting
– Knowledge of how to utiilze computerized diagnostic equipment.
– Self motivated with the ability to work unsupervised.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalent and one (1) year of experience as an automotive service technician or mechanic in a maintenance facility and/or repair setting, that may include the use of computerized diagnostic equipment. ASE Certifications in 2 systems or ASE Certified in 2 systems within one year of date of hire is required.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions
Work outside in varying weather conditions -hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow; exposure to sunlight, dust, and environmental allergens; exposure to mechanical parts; precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work under pressure next to high-speed traffic in all weather conditions on various types of terrain. Use of hands to finger, handle or feel while performing various assigned duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; bending; squatting; climbing, reaching, kneeling, and crawling to perform repairs. Able to work in high pressure situations and able to make decisions independently.
