Why does the job exist?
This position will provide vocational rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities to include transition students and youth with disabilities who are eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation Services to achieve a suitable employment outcome.
How does it get done?
The Tribal Liaison Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (TVRC) will be assigned a Student with Disability (SWD) caseload and will specialize in providing pre-employment transition services within the assigned jurisdiction of the Gallup DVR office. The TVRC will conduct outreach visits to state run public schools, Bureau of Indian Education operated schools, tribally controlled contract & grant schools; private schools; and charter schools to provide orientation and emphasis on the provision of services to students with disabilities to receive pre-employment transition services. In addition, the TVRC will provide vocational guidance and counseling to progress SWD through the process of potentially eligible receiving pre-employment services into eligibility and IPE development to provide a fluid process for students interested in receiving additional services in the vocational rehabilitation program.

People with disabilities, New Mexico Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (NMDVR) Staff, Partner Agencies, and the General Public.
Ideal Candidate
Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and Certified Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRC) Three years of experience in case management.
Three years of experience in counseling.
Strong Computer Skills, preferable using the AWARE system.
Strong Communication Skills.
A strong work ethic.
Success in being a team player.
A passion to assist individuals with disabilities.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Vocational Rehabilitation, Sociology, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Social Work, Special Education, or related degree as referenced by statute, with no experience required.

Working Conditions
Professional office setting. Sedentary work with occasional lifting; extensive work with the public, extensive use of PC; able to work effectively with diverse client population that includes individuals with physical, cognitive, and psychiatric disabilities and limitations. Must be able to travel to satellite office and be available to participate in offsite training and administrative support activities consistent with the primary job duties.
