Assistant Professor – Clinical or Counseling Psychology

The Department of Psychological Science at Boise State University invites interested applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2024. We are seeking a dedicated teacher and researcher with an area of specialization in clinical or counseling psychology (or a related field). Candidates that can teach courses in abnormal psychology, community psychology, counseling skills, and/or learning psychology are encouraged to apply. We seek candidates who can maintain an active program of research in counseling/clinical psychology that involves undergraduate students as research assistants, with a program of research sufficient to produce a minimum of three peer-reviewed publications in a five-year span prior to tenure application. The successful candidate will also engage in service activities (e.g. committee assignments) benefiting the Department, College of Arts and Sciences, and University, as well as the local community, state, region, and discipline.

The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to curriculum and pedagogy that is culturally responsive to the students it serves. The successful candidate will have the ability to engage all students in the classroom using evidence-based and inclusive teaching practices. The standard teaching load is the equivalent of 3 courses per semester, with possible adjustments for service activities or work on externally funded research projects. Flexibility in course modality and scheduling is available. This is a nine-month academic year tenure track position, with opportunities for salary enhancement through summer teaching or work on externally funded research projects.

At a minimum, candidates should have:

  • An earned doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology (or related field) by August 1, 2024.
  • Experience with evidence-based and inclusive teaching practices which seek to promote equitable access to educational opportunities.
  • Research experience enabling the management of a program of research.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated success or potential for success in teaching, research, and service.
  • A research program focused on clinical or counseling psychology, with specific field of specialization open.
  • Positive evaluations of skilled teaching
  • Experience teaching desired courses (abnormal psychology, community psychology, counseling skills, learning psychology, and/or personality)
  • A breadth of teaching experience (i.e., large classes and multiple modalities)

Salary and Benefits

Salary (9 month contract) ranges from $56,000 to $58,000, and is commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will also receive some start-up funding to support their research.
