Candidate Specification
We are looking for engineers with the following characteristics:
- B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program
- EIT required; Licensed California Professional Engineer, preferred
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in civil engineering
- Experience in civil or transit/rail engineering design, preferred
- Demonstrated ability to perform project management tasks such as design oversight, budget, schedule and quality control
- Experience in conceptual and preliminary engineering design phases. Final design and support during construction experience is a plus
- Design experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D and proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required
- Methodical approach to problem solving and attention to detail in developing or supporting the development of design plans and reports
- Perform tasks efficiently and independently
- Adaptable and flexible to work at the client’s office on multiple assignments
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with team members
Salary Range: $87,000 – $119,000

Job Description
Mott MacDonald is seeking a Civil Engineer interested in working on a transit related public works program in a dynamic work environment based in the San Jose, California. The ideal candidate is a mid-level engineer who can manage multiple small to medium projects through design and construction with minimal oversight.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Design oversight of transit projects related to small capital improvements and enhancement project for light rail or bus facilities;
- Perform design support tasks during construction;
- Perform some engineering design functions;
- Perform quantity take-offs for the development of cost estimates;
- Provide support to senior engineers for technical reports and specifications, quantity take-offs, estimates;
- Provide basic project management tasks on projects including management of budget, schedule, and quality control;
- Oversee work of other design consultants and entry-level staff;
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications;
- Compile and compute a variety of engineering data;
- Conduct site visits for the purposes of observing and documenting field conditions and observations;
- Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests, as-built drawings, etc.;
- Actively participate in meetings with Clients and Contractors;
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, as needed.
