Characters We Work With – Alias

The hit show ‘Alias’ depicts characters whose workplaces is the high-stakes, high-tech spy world of government secrets and espionage, yet each of them has a distinct personality, things they care about, want and need, just like all of us. The Michael Vaughn
Our colleague with oozing charisma and able to charm any client to come aboard or to smooth over the tough situations is the Michael Vaughn. The Michaels of the workplace have a way of winning over coworkers with their magnetic personality, and smooth vocals. The Michael is versatile, a ‘Jack-of-all-Trades’ it seems, as no matter the project or business challenge we encounter, the Michael is always able to dive in and handle it like he’s been doing it for years.
The Arvin Sloane
The more strategic colleagues we have are often those running the operation. Our executive strategist is The Arvin Sloane. The Arvin is a tremendous big picture thinker, always steps ahead of everyone, planning not for what to do today, but able to map out all of the business variables we may encounter to devise a plan to succeed through all of them. The Arvin’s ability to outmaneuver the competition, some externally, and even those internally in the occasional power-struggle, is impressive and somewhat concerning. We appreaciate the Arvin, and are confident that his business acumen will take us far, while we do our best to stay out of his cross-hairs.
The Marshall Flinkman
Our resident techie is the Marshall Flinkman. The Marshall is our Subject Matter Expert for everything system, network, computer, you name it. His talents extend well beyond the email that won’t send, or malware you invited by clicking on some sweepstakes you won for no apparent reason. The Marshall creates great technical solutions to real-world problems that save us time, money, greatly increase efficiency. With each new Marshall Creation he implements, he leaves us scratching our heads wondering if he is really human, or A.I.
The Marcus Dixon
Our Number Two in the office, who shows unwavering loyalty and support of the boss is The Marcus Dixon. The Marcus is the company loyalist, and trusted friend and ally that, not only the boss, but whom we all count on to back us up when we really need it, or simply to lend a helping hand. The Marcus brings dedication and reliability, essential for any solid business unit. Newer team member struggle to warm up to the Marcus, but it is because The Marcus is all about protecting the business and the team, and not until you’ve earned his trust will you see that the Marcus is a good person and great source of support you will want to rely on.
The Sydney Bristow
We have our proficient co-workers, and high performers, and every so often we have that colleague whose work is other-worldly. She is our Superwoman, The Sydney Bristow. The Sydney excels at her job, able to effortlessly take on new tasks, and execute projects with precision. She can solve any business problem, no matter how dire it may seem. The Sydney’s combination of intelligence, strategic-thinking, and resourcefulness makes her our Go-To person when the stakes are the highest. Although we have yet to figure out why she changes her outfits so frequently.
Most of us don’t work and live in the spy world, but those who do certainly include the Resourceful, the High-Achieving, the Charming, the Loyal, and the Technically Gifted. Whether we’re working on the next covert op as we see on ‘Alias’, or launching a new product to the market, it is those with such attributes that lead us all to a successfully completed mission. It is a great example of how Art Imitates Life when we look beyond the setting and the script to see it is really about the people we call The Characters We Work With.
