The Office of Mischief
Characters from ‘Loki’ We All Work With
The workplace can be an enigmatic world, where politics can seem like its own multi-verse of mischief and intrigue, making you scrutinize the things you see and hear at every turn. It’s sometimes hard to know what’s real and what is just an illusion. Where deadlines seem to bend themselves, and world of the workplace, where office politics can feel like a multiverse of mischief, and deadlines can bend reality at the drop of a hat. Such a place reminds of the world of Loki, and the characters he surrounds himself with, and often manipulates, bear a striking resemblance to many of the folks we have gotten to know throughout our own career journey.
The “Mobius M. Mobius” Office Analyst:
No office is complete without at least one, and most have a few, office analysts. They are the ones with the keenest of eyes for detail, and possess the analytical mind that rivals Mobius. Just like the show’s TVA Agent, the Mobius can piece together the office timelines and fairly quickly track down the source of any problem. The Mobius has the ability to analyze complex office data and bureaucracy in the blink of an eye, making them an essential team member. They will on occasion issue the ‘temporal violation’ for such things as office tardiness, and look to send you into a time loop, so do watch your back should you try and get away with anything. Eventually the Mobius will find out!
The “Sylvie” Office Rebel:
In the dynamic realm of the workplace, there’s always a Sylvie – the office rebel who challenges the established norms and brings a rebellious spirit to the office. Like the variant Loki, they have a knack for questioning authority and daring to be different. The unconventional approach Sylvie to things like routine office tasks keeps everyone guessing how and what she is thinking, making you often wonder if she is looking to create an office Nexus, and turn your organization into an its own alternate reality.
The “Hunter B-15” Office Enforcer
While perhaps not as forcefully, most offices have that office enforcer who keeps things in order and ensures everyone follows all rules and regulations. He is our Hunter B-15, and emulates the show’s tough TVA hunter, who won’t hesitate to address workplace violations and maintain order. The Hunter’s assertiveness might keep the office in line, but to get along, stay within the office’s policies and parameters, you will have to accept that, while his role is one he simply took on without a title or acknowledgement from any of the bosses, he may brandish an office badge like a Time Variance Authority agent, and make things a bit too intense for the otherwise calm, normal office setting.
The “Miss Minutes” Office Assistant
We all expect that in the workplace there is the office manager, or assistant is is the helpful, all-things working with the helpful demeanor and cheerful attitude, whom we compare to the Miss Minutes. Just like the animated character, our Miss Minutes is always ready to lend a digital hand with office tasks and offer useful information. The Miss Minutes will set up office meetings or provide assistance for people to better manage their schedules. In short, the Miss Minutes is the right person we turn to if we want things to run smoothly. While she can often seem to be everywhere, with her hands in everything all at once, you wonder how, and whether she is really here and there simultaneously, or is she possibly a hologram.
The “Loki” Office Trickster
We call him a prankster, the office ‘funny guy’, but the Lokie is a bit different. He is the office ‘trickster’, bringing the charm and unpredictable nature of Loki himself. The Office God of Mischief has a knack for stirring up office chaos with their witty pranks and clever wordplay. The Loki also seems to have ever-changing allegiances that keep the whole office on its toes. The Loki seems so adept at being one thing to some colleagues and entirely something different to others, you wonder if he has been using time-traveling powers to secretly get to know the outcomes of every act and decision he makes, giving him the opportunity to come back and do it over again to proceed just as needed to put himself in the best, most favorable, light. He will only ever operate to serve his own interests, yet there is something so likable about him that you find yourself drawn in, wanting to take that secret, adventurous ride with him for as long, and wherever, it may take you.
Every workplace has that blend of personalities – the tricksters, analysts, enforcers, and rebels, much like the characters from ‘Loki.’ Collectively, they create office misadventures, and perhaps even time-traveling dynamics that make our day to day unpredictable, and that is a good thing. When a daily routine becomes so repetitive that it spills over into monotony, that is when people leave and look for something a bit more interesting. But that will be the rare, and probably borking, individual who thrives in the monotonous. For us, we want to be where people like Loki and friends lead the way with mischief, mystery, and adventure to make ‘work’ seem like far more than what we expected when we took the offer to come aboard.
