The number of unique personalities we encounter through the course of our career is simply too many to count, from the light-hearted, the super serious, the ultimate professionals, and the innovators, among many others. The Hit show ‘This is Us’, takes us through decades of life through the eyes of the Pearson Family, each with their own quirks, strengths, and flaws. Let’s take a deeper dive into the Pearson crew and see how closely they line up to the Characters We Work With.
The Beth Pearson
One of our favorite leaders in the organization who always leads with her heart, as well as her sturdy shoulders, that her colleagues lean on during tough times is the Beth Pearson. The Beth brings wisdom and expertise to the team, an effective coach and leader who gets the best out of everyone she manages. But her biggest strengths are compassion, empathy, and the support her team needs to balance pressures at work and home, and we know she cares about people being successful in both places.
The Kate Pearson
Our office ‘Free Spirit’, who brings a wonderful personality along with her carefree approach that endears her to everyone is The Kate Pearson. The Kate has that knack for doing great work yet never seems exasperated or overworked, able to get her work done almost effortlessly. Her results are consistently stellar, and those assigned to join her on projects always get an extra bounce in their step knowing the project will be fun, bring flair and creativity, and the high-quality outcome makes everyone look good in the process.
The Rebecca Pearson
We love having a boss who is highly protective of her work-family, and why we love reporting to The Rebecca Pearson. When comments or suggestions are made about any of the team members she manages, from the quality of work, to behavior or attitude, The Rebecca will stand up for her to diffuse any negative sentiments, setting the record straight, and sending a message to those who may be bad-mouthing the Mama Bear’s Cubs. The Rebecca takes the bullets, owning any errors or mistakes her team members make, and who doesn’t love a boss like that?
The Randall Pearson
In every workplace, we have the co-worker who is so meticulous in their work that they take the term ‘Perfectionist’ to a new level with every project they work on. Ours is the Randall Pearson. The Randall has incredibly high standards for his work, and while he does not hold the rest of us to that same standard, he will offer a raised eyebrow here and there when he comes across sloppy or incomplete work from his peers. He is a solid, family man with strong values, and what makes him such a respected colleague. Our hope is for The Randall to do more teaching, given his talent and drive for excellence that we know the whole team could benefit from.
The Jack Pearson
Our manager, is also our resident mentor and motivator whom we call The Jack Pearson. The Jack wears many hats, and has proven capable to wear them each expertly. When people are down, the Jack knows the team-building or motivational exercise the team needs to pull them out of their funk. When confusion reigns, The Jack will be the one to address everyone, fill in any gaps of information that are causing stress for people, and always take people from a place of anxiety to motivation, giving the clarity, assurance, and uplifting they need to mitigate fears and happily get back on track with their work.
The Pearson Family from ‘This is Us’ is a wonderful example of how a family unit leans on love, trust, and support as the foundation that keeps a family together. The business units we are part of throughout our career lean on the same trust, support, and kinship to stay productive and engaged, with the high morale that drives employee satisfaction. It is what makes our reflections on the best places we’ve worked, those fond memories that stay with us thanks to The Characters We Work With.
