The selected candidate will start at step one of the pay scale, $27.28/hr.
Snohomish County Extension, a Program in the Parks Division of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), is seeking a highly capable 4-H Program Assistant to join our team providing logistical, promotional, coordination, development and teaching support for the Glacier Peak Institute’s Extension programs, classes workshops and events. This position will work out of Darrington and is performed in the usual office environment with frequent field trips to locations throughout the county. Some remote work may be possible. The 4-H Program Assistant position works independently to develop curriculum, monitor AmeriCorp members, assist in compliance, coordinate with partners, manage risk, along with recruiting, managing and coordinating volunteers.
The ideal candidate has 2-5 years of experience working in outdoor recreation, youth work or economic development. They will have a commitment to a positive, fun and team-oriented working environment and be willing to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends. They will have a Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in science, environmental education or related field and be willing to take CPR, first aid and other required certificates. A driver’s license is required and the ability to drive a 4WD vehicle on varying road conditions is a must.
The preferred candidate would have practical experience working with children and teenagers and has either worked in environmental education and/or have strong technical outdoor skills. Experience developing curricula or formal lesson planning is also preferred.

Job Duties
STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Coordinates the promotion of 4-H activities in Snohomish County.
- Seeks out opportunities to speak before youth groups and other organizations to promote 4-H activities and recruit volunteers.
- Ensures programs outreach that includes all races and economic levels.
- Works with the 4-H team to prepare presentations, brochures and displays, assists in the preparation of the 4-H newsletter and website content.
- Arranges for, sets up, facilitates and/or participates in 4-H related meetings as appropriate; prepares oral and written presentations and reports; responds to questions, provides information and input as appropriate.
- As assigned, facilitates the development and maintenance of 4-H programs in 4-H clubs and in school curriculums; develops and assists in the maintenance of programs as appropriate; and participates in the development of grant funds and donated resources.
- Assists the 4-H staff team and other extension agents in leadership training and personally conducts training programs for volunteer leaders and participating youth.
- Coordinates 4-H members and leader recognition programs; assists in the development of selection criteria and the preparation of awards and award ceremonies.
- Provides administrative support to the 4-H program; assists potential volunteers in organizing new 4-H programs; provides interpretation of policy/procedure to program volunteers; and assists in evaluating program outcomes of existing activities.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
An Associates degree and two (2) years experience working with volunteers and/or youth; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Previous experience with 4-H or other youth development programs is preferred. Must pass job related tests.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
A valid Washington State Drivers License is required.
Must successfully pass a Washington State Patrol Criminal History background check.

SUPERVISION
