General Statement
The 911 Telecommunicator I PT, trains to perform specialized emergency communications work in the County’s enhanced 911 Communications Department.
Essential Functions
Answers 911 lines, non-emergency administrative lines, TTY lines, text-to-911 lines and obtains and properly verifies the location of service.
Assists and instructs callers using Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), fire and law enforcement protocols and/or ProQA software.
Gathers necessary information for responders.
Utilizes the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for call processing and dispatching, mapping, monitoring and reporting.
Operates a computerized, multi-channel two-way radio to transmit and receive messages, establish and maintain patches, and monitor responder activity.
Ensures the scene responders are responding to is as safe as possible.
Accesses and uses recording equipment to playback and/or save audio files as needed.
Operates the telephone system to include transferring, re-bidding, speed dial and other functions essential to daily operations.
Makes notification and relays information as needed.
Verifies jurisdiction for Alarm Monitoring Companies.
Operates the State Bureau of Investigation’s Division of Criminal Information computer.
Gains required job certifications.
Completes required continuing education to maintain certifications.
Stays abreast of laws related to Public Safety Communications; Ensures compliance to HIPAA, Public Right to Know Act, North Carolina General Statutes, and other applicable laws.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED), and no required experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must pass any/all background investigations, including Criminal History check(s).
Computerized aptitude testing with a passing score of 80 is required for this position.
Successfully complete the C-COM Telecommunicator Training program, Emergency Telecommunicator Course, CPR/AED training, DCI, EMD, call taking, and either county law channel and city law channel, or county fire, Monroe fire and EMS channels, NC Sheriff’s Standards Certification. Be able to learn new procedures and techniques for handling current as well as any additional equipment, radios, telephone, computer, recording equipment, etc.
Typing speed of 35 words per minute (WPM).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computer terminals, computerized radio channels, copier, recording equipment, shredder, and enhanced 911 telephone equipment. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pound of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. However, if the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
