I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Academic Medical Enterprise Web Lead is part of the university’s Office of Communications and Marketing division and serves as a liaison and point of contact for the web presence of the GW Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) and School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS).

The Web Lead works in concert with the Academic Medical Enterprise (AME) Marketing and Communications Director, MFA and SMHS stakeholders, and the central Office of Communications and Marketing division to achieve unit-specific and collective goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Website Management

Coordinating with AME communications colleagues on day-to-day and strategic web priorities
Maintaining websites affiliated with the AME, either directly or through delegation to other content managers
Creating and/or editing content for AME websites
Building websites on content management systems including Drupal and WordPress
Working with HTML and CSS when necessary for projects
Understanding and maintaining integrations with third-party services such as EPIC, Press Ganey and Hubley
When working with third parties such as external vendors, the Web Lead is responsible for ensuring compliance with GW/AME standards and policies

  • Project and Client Management

Applying project and client management best practices to ensure successful project completion
Managing and prioritizing day-to-day operational tasks with larger ongoing projects
Leading intake and review meetings with stakeholders
Participate in regular third-party vendor meetings

  • Strategy

Working with the Marketing and Communications Director and other stakeholders to align websites with AME’s strategic and marketing priorities
Using web content strategy, search engine optimization, and digital accessibility best practices
Using site mapping, wireframing and content development to complete university projects
Regularly reviewing web analytics to inform decision making
Coordinating web content publishing across ancillary systems, such as the University Calendar and digital signage
Ensuring websites are properly configured for digital marketing, including analytics tracking, distribution on social media, and search engine optimization
Working with the design team and developers to improve the user journey of a website

  • Quality Assurance

Ensuring website content is up to date, accurate and free of errors such as typos and broken links
Fact checking and paying close attention to detail to produce error-free work
Ensuring the websites meet GW visual identity standards, GW digital accessibility standards, and AME editorial best practices

  • Communication

Demonstrating excellent communication skills in both outward- and internal-facing contexts
Ensuring the status of web projects and tasks is clearly communicated within the division and with AME stakeholders
Communicating effectively with stakeholders who have a range of technical expertise

  • Support and Training

Assisting when needed on stakeholder training and support
Providing support on projects across the Office of Communications and Marketing division per request from manager and/or division lead as needed

The AME Web Lead may also perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Typical Hiring Range
$55,931.64 – $76,934.53 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
