The Work You Will Do:
This position performs professional accounting work for a complex revenue structure. A major portion of time is spent auditing and processing refunds in compliance with various Florida Statutes relating to revenue refunds on behalf of the Department. Provide support within the Revenue Accounting Section where accurate accounting business processes meet quality control measures, conformance with prescribed deadlines and compliance with standards of the Department (DBPR), the Department of Financial Services (DFS), the Office of the Auditor General, Governmental Accounting.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for auditing and processing refunds. The payee addresses and refund amounts are checked for accuracy against information provided to the incumbent. Refunds will be audited for compliance with Florida statutes, Comptroller’s rules and Department policies.
- Resolves discrepancies involving refunds with payees and Department personnel through written and/or oral correspondence and documents all requests for information. It is essential to provide timely and courteous customer service when corresponding with payees
- Audit and process MyFloridaMarketPlace (MFMP) invoices that have been approved for payment. MFMP invoices will be audited for compliance with Florida statues, Comptroller’s rules and Department policies.
- Audit and process travel vouchers that have been submitted for mileage reimbursement only. The travel vouchers will be audited for compliance with Florida statutes, Comptroller’s rules and Department policies. Resolve any discrepancies involving travel voucher mileage with potential payees and Department personnel through written and/or oral correspondence and documents all request for information.
- Maintains a good working relationship with the CFO and department employees.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
- Knowledge of FLAIR transactions and how to use them; inclusive of auditing and processing invoices for payment.
- Knowledge of Florida statutes, CFO rules and Department policies pertaining to invoice processing, refunds and accounts payable.
- A basic knowledge of rules and regulations involving travel and mileage reimbursement is necessary.
- Knowledge of MS Office Software.
- Ability to use available technology to perform duties including computer software, hardware and data systems.
- Ability to exercise independent thinking, organize and communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Minimum Qualifications:
The Accountant II should possess the following:
- A high school diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of clerical or fiscal experience; or
- Any combination of this experience and college education from an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience; or
- Completion of a 720 hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in the area of accounting can substitute for one year of the required experience.
- One (1) year employment experience communicating with internal and external customers, both verbally and in writing.
Preference will be given to those who can demonstrate one or more of the following: an interest in public service and accounting, a working knowledge of accounting software, familiarity with state purchasing rules, experience managing Microsoft Office software and/or experience working in an accounting office.
