About Accounting Analyst:This is an experienced professional-level position in the Auditor’s Office responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial, property tax, or treasury information prepared for countywide financial processes. Performs complex accounting, property tax, and/or treasury work involving the independent application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Essential Functions

  • Prepares, analyzes, and reconciles accounting, property tax and/or treasury data such as bank reconciliations, tax rates, state credits, cash balances, TIF, distributions, etc.
  • Prepares and reviews schedules, reconciliations, and pertinent logs and reports.
  • Creates, compiles, and verifies transactions related to the processing, auditing, and reporting of accounting, property tax and/or treasury transactions.
  • Plans work to ensure statutory duties are fulfilled including, but not limited to, certifying, and filing reports with federal or state authorities such as valuation list, tax list, credit reports, budget certifications, etc.
  • Maintains payroll general ledger mapping and records payroll journals to the general ledger system.
  • Troubleshoots, tests, and assists with configuration of ERP system(s) to ensure proper operation.
  • Communicates with state agencies, other county departments, and political subdivisions.
  • Responds to inquiries and provides various information and technical assistance to requesting parties.
  • Performs duties of account technicians and/or universal account clerk as needed.
  • May serve as a lead worker to review the work of staff in their respective department.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
  • Knows the products they personally produce and the customers of each product. Listens to the “Voice of the Customer “and closes gaps between customer expectations and experience whenever possible.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related field from an accredited college or university required.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of recent experience in a related field working with complex accounting, property tax and/or treasury systems and procedures required. Experience working in a county or governmental body preferred.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge of the Code of Iowa as it relates to county finances.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply laws, rules, and regulations to work.
  • Good knowledge of office and business practices.
  • Skill in preparing accounting, financial statistical statements, and in the compilation of basic and supporting data.
  • Skill in the use of a keyboard, calculator, and spreadsheet software like Excel.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply laws, rules, and regulations to work.
  • Ability to work effectively with elected officials, managers, and other County employees.

Special Requirements:
Must pass a County physical examination which includes a drug test after offer of employment. Subject to criminal history review. Regular work attendance required. Must remain awake and aware of surroundings at all times. Mandatory and voluntary overtime will be required at various times throughout the year and/or during special projects.
