Position Description

The Accounting Analyst is responsible for the overall property accounting on both a GAAP and Tax basis. Responsibilities include financial analysis, review and reporting for multiple Federally Assisted Housing properties. The Accounting Analyst reports to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of journal entries, issuance of operating cash flow reports, reporting packages, standard account reconciliations, assisting with budgeting, variance analysis and annual audit work papers.

The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000 per year.

Responsibilities:

  • Analysis and preparation of journal entries for each monthly close on both a GAAP and Tax basis. Determine appropriate accruals, standard entries, allocations, reclasses and adjustments to accurately reflect the monthly results of each property.
  • Communication with Property Managers and Internal Management to ensure completeness and accuracy of income and expenses as well as the exchange of information on various projects.
  • Generate financial reports to report monthly, quarterly and annual results.
  • Review operating cash flows, balance sheets and income statements for accuracy and completeness.
  • Preparation of standard account reconciliations including bank account reconciliations , expense and income review, journal entries, supporting analysis, escrow analysis, accounts payable, accounts receivable and fixed asset analysis including depreciation, additions, and disposals.
  • Responsible for analyzing and recording fixed asset additions, disposals, acquisitions, and sales and depreciation postings in accordance with fixed asset capitalization policies. Responsible for ensuring the BNA fixed asset reports are complete and accurate.
  • Prepare monthly reporting for Lenders, Partners and other third parties.
  • Support the annual budgeting and projection processes.
  • Preparation of documentation to support year-end close and related audit packages.
  • Ensuring timely payment of certain property expenses such as mortgage payments, taxes and various other expenses.
  • Preparation of sales/use tax filings on a monthly/quarterly basis.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
  • Note: 5-7 years of experience can offset minimum educational requirements.
  • 3-4 years of experience with accounting, forecasting and financial analysis required.
  • 1-2 years of experience with a Real Estate Management Company or in Public Accounting preferred.
  • CPA Certification preferred.
  • Strong general ledger knowledge required.
  • Ability to perform and manage various daily, weekly, and monthly duties and contribute productively in a team environment required.
  • Technology skills (Microsoft Office, Suite, especially Excel, etc.) required.
  • Oral and written communication skills required.
  • RealPage software experience preferred.
  • Yardi Systems experience preferred .
