SUMMARY:

Assists in the day-to-day accounting functions of the facility in accordance with current acceptable accounting practices and as directed by the Finance Supervisor and/or CFO. Primary focus will be Medicaid Application processing and financial duties associated.

DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY:

As the Accounting Clerk, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibilities, and accountability necessary for your assigned duties.

EMPLOYMENT AT WILL:

Employment with Fahrney-Keedy is “at will.” Either the associate or Fahrney-Keedy may terminate the employment relationship for any reason at any time without notice, regardless of the length of employment or the granting of benefits of any kind, including benefits which provide for vesting based on length of service.

CONFIDENTILITY:

Fahrney-Keedy associates recognize that Fahrney-Keedy has and will have information regarding financial, personal, and medical affairs and other vital information (collectively, “information”) which are valuable, special, and unique assets of Fahrney-Keedy. Associates agree that they will not at any time or in any manner solicit, collect, or divulge any Information to any third party without the prior written consent of Fahrney-Keedy. This information is Company property which may not be disclosed outside the facility unless properly released for publication. Associates will protect the Information and treat it as strictly confidential. Associates should not discuss Fahrney-Keedy affairs with others.

JOB FUNCTION:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains records of financial transactions in accordance with established procedures.

Assists with implementing the day-to-day functions of the finance department.

Applies cash in system for all payers.

Assists residents/families with Maryland Medicaid applications and redetermination.

Assists with monthly Medicaid and Hospice billing.

Develops a good working rapport with people of all ages, their families, and designees.

Contacts Medicaid-approved residents/families regarding past due balances and establishes repayment plans for approval as appropriate.

May assist with the preparation and filing of private pay and third-party billing claims.

Monitors accounts receivable to ensure that payments and receipts are current.

Updates and maintains financial records within resident files and financial software.

Assist with Resident Fund Management Service accounts, to include reconciliation and “Cost of Care” payments.

May perform Remote Deposit banking functions.

Follows written policies and procedures that govern the accounting functions of the facility.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Keeps floors dry. Report spills immediately.

Keeps excess supplies and equipment off the floor. Stores in designated areas.

Reports all safety violations.

Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies.

Reports work-related injuries or illnesses and/or occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals to your supervisor.

Safely uses only the equipment you have been trained to use.

Practices appropriate handwashing and use of hand sanitizer.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate may encounter while performing the essential duties of this position.   • Works throughout the Fahrney-Keedy campus and facilities.
  • Moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with residents, staff, visitors, government agencies, etc. under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, visitors, etc.
  • Communicates with staff throughout the campus and facilities.
  • May work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary and may work in other positions when necessary.
  • Subject to call-back during emergency conditions (i.e., severe weather, evacuation, post disaster, etc.)
  • Attends and participates in educational programs.
  • Subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, and/or other air contaminants.
  • Maintains liaison with other department supervisors.

RESIDENT RIGHTS:

  • Maintains the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Reports known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.
  • Ensures that all residents are treated fairly with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  • Knocks and waits for permission to enter all residents’ rooms.
  • Reports all grievances and complaints made by the residents to the Nursing Supervisor or Charge Nurse.
  • Reports all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property to the Fahrney-Keedy Abuse Coordinator.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/employees, and the public.
  • Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other staff.
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
  • Must no pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

EDUCATION:

  • Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma. College degree preferred but not necessary.

PRIOR/RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be a minimum of three years’ accounting/billing/banking practices.
  • Experience in health care accounting is preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL & SENSORY REQUIREMENTS (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices):

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, staff, and support agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
