POSITION SUMMARY: Provides a variety of accounting and grant-related duties in the Finance Department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
- Intermediate Excel skills
- High School Diploma
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree or 2 years from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting or business related field.
- 2 years of Accounting experience
- Valid Alaska driver’s license
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- General ledger accounting functions
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Pre- and post-award grant accounting
- Preparation of journal entries
- Accounts payable procedures
- Bank deposit procedures
- Routine financial analysis
- Modern office equipment including personal computers and related accounting software
- Filing and record keeping
- Common purchasing procedures for governments
ABILITY TO:
- Maintain confidentiality
- Work independently with little direction
- Learn and apply existing accounting systems, policies, procedures, methods and techniques
- Keep accurate records
- Communicate effectively with others,, both orally and in writing
- Compose general correspondence and reports
- Prepare journal entries for all types of general ledger accounts
- Perform arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately
- Operate 10-key calculator
- Operate a personal computer and related software
- Maintain effective working relationships with other people
- Maintain accurate and complete records and files
- Assist vendors with queries related to their invoices
- Prepare spreadsheets for financial analysis
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting or business related field
- Two years accounting experience preferred
Compensation: This is a full-time 12-month position, with a minimum salary of $30.31 per hour, including the District’s excellent benefit package including health, dental, vision and life insurance, Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), and paid sick and vacation days.
Selected hire will be fingerprinted at applicant’s expense and fingerprints forwarded to the Alaska State Troopers and the FBI for a records check.
