Department Summary

Transportation Services is a unit within Campus Services in the Finance and Administration portfolio. The VPFA’s Campus Services group is comprised of units, including Transportation Services, that support the university by providing essential services to the campus community.

Established in 2012, Transportation Services’ mission is to provide access, mobility, and parking services in support of campus. The department strives for a future where we are an industry leader in providing people and goods safe travel to and through campus with minimal impact to the environment while meeting campus operational needs.

Transportation Services is an auxiliary unit that covers its expenses and operations through revenue generation, largely through permit sales, meter revenue, events and citations. Transportation Services’ annual budget is approximately $4.3 million. The department maintains more than 3,800 parking spaces on or adjacent to campus in more than 60 lots and two multi-level parking garages.
Position Summary

The Active Transportation Coordinator is primarily responsible for coordinating active transportation programs and services within the Transportation Services Department. This also includes explaining active transportation programs through in person events or activities, and digital or print media. This position also serves as support for department committees, such as the Citation Appeals Board. It supports special projects and data collection and analysis. This position works independently in the administration of active transportation programs and is responsible for all related research, data collection, program evaluation, interpretation of materials and trends, and providing reports and recommendations to the Transportation Planner.

The Active Transportation Coordinator will be required to exercise independent decision making, initiative, and individual judgment as well as the application of institution and state standards and policies. The position uses rules, regulations, guidelines, procedures, and manuals to provide customer service and accomplish work on a daily basis. This position will also provide and gather information, and utilize computer databases – all of which require close attention to detail. Decisions must be based on accurate interpretation of rules and policies to uphold the Department’s customer service mission and standards of professionalism. Work assignments will usually be verbal and work is subject to regular review by the Transportation Planner.

The position must utilize and work within structured, often times complex, guidelines including but not limited to:
a) The rules and regulations of the University of Oregon & Transportation Services department;
b) Contracts and agreements with vendors and partner agencies;
c) Campus maps; and
d) Campus Planning documents, such as the University’s transportation plan and bicycle plan, and relevant municipal transportation planning documents.

The Active Transportation Coordinator has regular, consistent interactions with internal campus partners as well as external partners. Interactions occur daily via various methods including in-person, via phone and email. Position may serve as a department representative in various campus meetings and through community partnerships.

The Active Transportation Coordinator operates in an office setting. The position spends a considerable amount of time in front of a computer, answering emails, working within software databases/systems to process requests, retrieve and update data, and updating guides, materials, and websites. As needed., the position will work outside in support of active transportation programs.
Minimum Requirements
• Two years of experience as an administrative specialist or executive support specialist which included administrative support for a project, program, or operation. Administrative support includes those duties beyond clerical/secretarial such as interpretation of laws, rules, and regulations; administrative data collection and analysis; and evaluation of projects, processes, and operations; OR
• An equivalent combination of training and experience.

One year of postsecondary education may be substituted for up to one year of the experience.

Preferred Qualifications
• Working knowledge of, and interest in, alternative/active transportation options and current parking and
transportation issues.
• Research and analysis skills.
• University course work related to Transportation Demand Management (TDM), Transportation Planning, or other similar study.
• Experience in a higher education environment.
• Experience with desktop publishing software, such as InDesign or Publisher.
• Proficiency with GIS software.
