About the Agency: The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) is a state agency dedicated to helping Mississippians with disabilities to live and work independently. MDRS serves through four major programs: Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), Office of Special Disability Programs (OSDP), and Disability Determination Services (DDS). Services also include support through Assistive Technology, the Office of Business Development and much more. About the Position: This position serves in the Office of Disability Determination Services (DDS). DDS makes medical determinations for Title II and Title XVI Social Security disability claims. The incumbent will provide clerical and administrative support to the DDS claims processing teams. Duties will include: operating mail room machinery, manually opening and sorting incoming mail, using claims processing software to identify Social Security disability claim information, making and receiving phones calls, and inputting data to assist with administrative transactions.
What you’ll need to be Successful: Must demonstrate the ability to plan, prioritize, and organize to complete assigned tasks. Must work collaboratively but also independently to achieve assigned goals. Must adhere to guidelines and polices set forth by the Social Security Administration. Must possess excellent communication skills and use innovative methods to assist the agency in meeting its goals. Proficiency in use of software and technology required for performance of job.
Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires High School Diploma or equivalent and 1-3 years of experience. Hiring agency preferred qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of experience.
