Position Summary:
The SEIU-UHW Communications Specialist plans and executes all aspects of communications in support of our organizing, legislative, and contract bargaining campaigns.
The SEIU-UHW Communications Specialist functions include the following:
- Work with team and independently to develop and execute on communications strategies, messaging, plans, and timelines.
- Develop creative ways to communicate with members and the public, including but not limited to social media, effective email, and text messaging.
- Develop our identity and brand for SEIU-UHW and SEIU-UHW-associated projects or campaigns.
- Conceptualize, shoot, and edit video projects for quick use in social media and longer videos for presentations.
- Train SEIU-UHW members and staff to be effective spokespeople and storytellers.
- Write, edit, and design effective direct mail, leaflets, and other printed materials.
- Write, edit, and design advertising for use online and in print.
- Write, edit, and design content for social media accounts and websites.
- Create effective concepts and messaging for events including signage and promotional materials.
- Write, edit, and distribute press releases; contact reporters to pitch stories or events.
- Analyze and report on communications outcomes and apply that learning to future communications. (ex: social media engagement and effectiveness, or tracking snail mail program performance.)
Requirements
Qualifications:
• Ability to work closely with a team, accommodate requests from team members, and assimilate input from multiple sources.
• At least 2 years of experience working in communications for non-profit organizations, progressive political campaigns, or unions.
• Excellent visual, written, and verbal communications skills.
• Design experience and proficiency in Adobe InDesign or Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Experience shooting and editing video using Adobe Premiere or similar program.
• Experience developing content for and executing on social media plans.
• Works collaboratively with campaigns and departments at all levels of the organization.?
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and an ability to deliver high-quality results with minimal instruction and a short turn- around time.
• Excellent inter-personal skills, an enthusiastic attitude and a commitment to contribute to a positive work environment.
• An ability and commitment to modeling pro-active leadership behavior and skills.
• The ability, experience, energy and enthusiasm to take responsibility for whole communications campaigns and pro-actively see each component through to a successful conclusion.
• Deep commitment to the labor movement and progressive causes;
• Must thrive in an environment with tight deadlines; changing priorities, high-pressure and irregular hours.
• Spanish language fluency preferred.
