Salary Range: Salary is commensurate with related experience

0-2 Years’ Experience $68,300 – $80,700

2-3 Years’ Experience $80,000 – $94,600

Description

This position is responsible for supporting a Project Manager/Program Manager/Release Train Engineer with planning, managing, tracking and reporting of IT projects. The Project Coordinator will help monitor and manage project status, schedule, budget, scope, quality, issues, risks and dependencies. The position will partner with IT Governance to ensure compliance with project methodology and controls.

The Project Coordinator must understand project management processes and execution, as well as the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for waterfall, Agile, and hybrid approaches. A working knowledge for IT infrastructure, systems integration and vendor management is essential. This role is one that requires teamwork, business acumen, strong relationship management skills, with both IT and Business areas, and ability to address management.

An understanding of project governance in the context medium to large scale IT projects and a basic understanding of the testing life cycle are required. The Project Coordinator should embrace the BNSF Leadership Model and actively demonstrate commitment to the model. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain project team roster and contact information
  • Create/maintain email distribution lists
  • Support Project Manager/Program Manager and project team by scheduling meetings and providing other logistical support needed for meetings (e.g. Meeting space, A/V setup, supplies, food etc.)
  • Capture & publish meeting notes including any risks, action items, issues, or decisions
  • Support Project Manager/Program Manager with status reporting (e.g. Collecting status from each work stream and creating first draft of status report)
  • Capture and maintain Risks, Actions, Issues, Decisions log items
  • Assist the Project Manager/Program Manager in updating the project schedule and working with Project Manager/Program Manager to ensure activities are completed as scheduled
  • Support Project Manager/Program Manager with budget creation, tracking and reporting
  • Support Project Manager/Program Manager in tracking key project metrics
  • Support Project Manager/Program Manager and project team for Release Planning
  • Provide support for grooming Kanban and/or Scrum boards to match backlog and updates on iterations
  • Support scheduling sprint retrospectives
  • Provide on boarding support for new contractors or employees
  • Manage project SharePoint site administration, document version control and tracking reviews/approvals

Desired Skills and Experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or a related discipline
  • Experience in Information Technology that involved business process change, organizational change, and medium to large scale technology deployments
  • Experience in business and solution development, project management, and project delivery
  • Strong understanding of the system development life cycle
  • Ability to interact effectively with various levels within the organization
  • Experience working with vendors/partners to deliver projects
  • Experience developing complex, project plans to meet business objectives
  • Experience developing and managing large project budgets
  • Proven experience in project change management
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project, Visio and Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and SharePoint

Preferred Education, Experience, Skills

  • 3+ years of Information Technology experience that involved business process change, organizational change, and medium to large scale technology deployments
  • CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) ® Certification
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM)
  • Experience with Planview
  • Experience with VersionOne, Rally SW(now CA Agile Central), JIRA
