Job Summary
This position will work at the Gahanna Division Police providing logistical and material support, project management/program, and performing complex administrative work of a technical nature. This position serves as the primary logistician for the Division of Police, providing direct logistical support to the working units within the agency.
Starting Salary Range: The starting salary is between the minimum and midpoint of the range ($53,040.00 – $63,648.00/annually). Candidates will start at the minimum of the range unless their skills, experience, education or other factors exceed the qualifications for the position.
Candidates for this position must pass a comprehensive background check including a personal history questionnaire and polygraph.
Essential Job Functions
- Determines supply, equipment, services, and material needs for the Division of Police. Identifies supply and service vendors from available commercial sources and those providers available through cooperative purchasing contracts with the State and other governmental entities.
- Works within established Division and Department of Finance operating procedures, obtains purchase orders, places and tracks orders, accepts deliveries, stocks supply, distributes equipment, monitors stock and consumable items, reviews invoices and balances against items received, backordered and ensures accuracy in terms of pricing.
- Responsible for the oversight of the Division’s vehicle fleet and equipment. Performs triage of reported problems, identifies needed repairs, coordinates between the City’s Fleet Facility and external vendors for repairs; shuttles vehicles and equipment to service and repair centers; coordinates vendor services and support.
- Responsible for maintenance, organization, documentation, and logs of police equipment, such as speed measuring devices, body cameras, portable, mobile, and fixed-base radios and corresponding accessories, in-vehicle cameras, uniforms, body armor and other ballistic equipment, individual and unit-issued equipment, weapons systems, personal protective equipment (PPE) and other Division maintained equipment/accessories.
- At the direction of the training sergeant orders, stocks, inventories, and maintains ammunition and specialty munitions supplies, training materials, targets, spare parts, sighting systems and other weapons systems accessories maintained by the Division. Coordinates and tracks repairs as necessary.
- Manages the Divisions Radio Communications system and its assets to include all needed service, repairs, annual alignment, encryption, and warranty work as coordinated through external vendors. Manages the Division’s radio subscriber inventory through the State of Ohio’s MARCS Office. Activates, deactivates, and transfers radio system identification numbers, monitors quarterly billing for accuracy, reports subscriber-level problems to the appropriate vendor or the MARCS Office for troubleshooting and resolution. Identifies system failures by inspections of the equipment and takes steps to rectify failures as soon as possible.
- Provides input during the formulation of the Division’s annual budget regarding equipment needs, lifecycle management of Division assets/equipment, warranty expirations and other issues that require budget planning or will have a budgetary impact.
- Conducts weekly jail inspections and maintains the jail facility to established standards; identifies problems and deficiencies; conducts inspections as required by law and coordinates with outside entities, manages and maintains records. Manages and maintains all sanitary, evidence collection, and other supplies for the operation of the holding facility.
- Continuously analyzes and assesses workflows to improve procedures, processes, and deliverables for the department.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Education: Associate degree from an accredited institution in business or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years professional administrative office experience, public safety experience preferred.
- Licensure or Certification Requirements
- Current and valid Ohio Driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract in order to meet criteria for insurability established by the City of Gahanna.
- LEADS (Law Enforcement Automated Data System) certification within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) access.
- Must meet background standards in order to pass comprehensive background check.

- Monitors overall police facility conditions and promptly reports deficiencies, needed repairs and/or services to the Department of Public Service or external vendor for remedy or repair.
- Identify vendors or sources of supplies. Ensures all supply storage areas are organized and inventoried.
- Inspects goods received for proper quantity and quality; resolves discrepancies with vendors.
- Coordinate the availability and delivery of logistical needs during special events.
- Manages, coordinates, orders needed supplies and takes care of all logistics for special events involving the Division of Police.
- Responsible for maintaining fleet washes and detailing for all assigned units in the division for operational use, special events and City festivals.
- Ensures uniform requests follow established division policies.
- Completes projects and all other tasks as assigned by supervisor; research records and files; provides requested information on technical or complex issues.
- May serve as back up for other civilian positions. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a normal office environment and in the field exposing the employee to various outside atmospheric conditions and to conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system, eyes or the skin; possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools or machinery, electrical shock, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals.
